04. Operation

Warm-up phase
Push the On/Off switch to the right in a gas-free atmosphere or in
the fresh air to switch on the detector. The rotary control should
be set to minimum in the direction of the minus symbol.
During the warm-up phase, which takes around 60 seconds,
hold the BG30 gas detector up high in clean air.During this warm-
up phase, in which the appliance automatically calibrates itself,
the BG30 may emit a ticking or warning sound.
This warning sound slowly becomes quieter after the warm-up
phase is complete. The appliance now no longer emits any war-
ning sounds. Instead, a steady ticking sound indicates that the
BG30 is ready for use. If the appliance is in an area in which
there is flammable gas in the air, the warning sound may not
become quieter!
Headphone connector
Headphones may be connected to the BG30 in surroundings
where there is a great deal of background noise. The built-in
loudspeaker no longer operates if headphones are connected.
The ticking and warning sounds therefore do not annoy anybo-
dy in your vicinity.
m
The ticking and warning sounds may be amplified by
the headphones under certain circumstances, beco-
ming very loud.

LEL definition
LEL = Lower Explosive Limit
The LEL of a flammable gas is the minimum concentration of
this gas required for it to burn due to a source of ignition (e.g.
a match). The gas does not burn at a concentration below the
LEL. Gas detectors for flammable gases are usually calibrated
for 0 – 100 % LEL.
Gas leak location
Adjust the sensitivity using the corresponding accuracy regula-
tor wheel 7 until a slow ticking sound can be heard. Move the
sensor towards the suspected leak.
If a higher concentration of gas is detected, the ticking fre-
quency increases. If the gas level is approximately 10 % LEL of
methane, the alarm LED blinks and a warning sound is heard.
This alarm sound becomes louder as the concentration of gas
increases. In areas where the gas concentration is higher, the
ticking frequency can be readjusted by turning the regulator
wheel 7 anticlockwise to make the leak easier to find.

05. Battery replacement

If the green operating indicator LED 4 blinks or does not light up,
then the batteries need to be replaced. If the appliance does not
emit any sounds after approx. 2 minutes, even after adjusting the
sensitivity range 7, then the batteries need to be replaced.
