Recommended curing time: Refer to your
composite
material
manufacturer
information on curing time. Generally, The
top surface of any restoration is easily cured
to maximum hardness. It is the underlying
and bottom layers that are more difficult to
cure. Sufficient time or layering techniques
should be used to cure the composite to the
necessary depth, especially when darker
shades or heavily filled resins are used. If
your curing unit has high output (800mW/cm
and above) consider reducing your curing
time.
The Kerr Hardness Disk part number 20399
can
be
used
to
evaluate
the
unit/composite material curing ability (Figure
8).
The 3mm thick disk is made from a
unique glass filled polymer based composite
that simulates the hardness and texture of a
cured dental composite.
If your curing unit output is sufficient for
2
curing
(above
300mW/cm
)
but
composite material fails to cure, the material
may be old beyond it's shelf life or defective
in some other way. Try a different batch of
composite.

CALIBRATION

for
The Optilux Radiometer is factory calibrated
and does not require periodic calibration with
normal use as long as the unit remains sealed.
Normal use includes checking curing light
output each time curing is performed.
radiometer may require calibration if the unit is
dropped or damaged.

10. MAINTENANCE

CAUTION:
maintenance can cause inaccurate light
output readings resulting in inadequate or
curing
excessive light output.
Periodic
maintenance
operator will help ensure that your Optilux
Radiometer
continues
specifications.
The only maintenance required is to keep the
the
aperture window clean with isopropyl alcohol
and a cotton swab. There is no need to
dismantle the radiometer. There are no user
serviceable parts inside.
NOTE: Every curing light unit requires periodic
maintenance. The Kerr Optics Maintenance Kit
is specifically designed for this purpose (Figure
9). Refer to your curing light unit operator's
manual for more information on curing light
maintenance.
