1.
Put the cable (1) in the cable sheath (2), please refer
to illustration 1. The guide sleeve (22) can be threaded
onto the end of the cable to help insertion. If the boat has
twin installation, the cable sheath in the starboard shield
should be used. Run the cable to the outside of the star-
board steering cylinder (3) and make sure that the cable
does not become taught when the drive is folded up,
please refer to illustration 2.
2.
Remove the cover (4) from the drive.
3.
Remove both rubber seals (5) from cable (1). Insert the
cable into the bracket (6) until the cable flange (A) comes
into the correct position. Please refer to illustration 2. Re-
install the rubber seals on the cable.
4.
Remove the steering cylinder piston pin. Screw the th-
readed cable end into the ball joint (7). Apply medium
to high strength locking fluid (Loctite) to the thread, and
install the ball joint on the new pin (8). notE! Do not use
the ball joint (19 or 20) in any applications outside the
boat. These parts are not stainless steel. Only use the
stainless ball joint assembly (7) in the application to the
clevis pin (8) outside the boat. Grease the pin with Volvo
Penta water resistant grease (part no. 828250). Assemble
the pin and lock it with the split pin. Lock the cable to the
ball joint with the nut (9).
5.
Remove the lower clamp for the hydraulic pipes closest to
the steering cylinder (3).
Install the clamp (10) behind the steering cylinder hydrau-
lic pipe. Fix the clamp and bracket (6) with socket cap
screws (11) and lock nuts (12). Make sure that the hy-
draulic pipes are not damaged or bent during fixing.
6.
Re-install the cover on the drive and put the drive in the
straight ahead position (0° position).

Then put the cable with cable sheath on the hull in the
fairest possible route. Remember that the autopilot sen-
sor (13) or Volvo Penta's rudder indicator (14) should be
installed at the threaded end of the cable. Fix the cable
sheath temporarily.
notE! The end of the cable sheath must be installed at
a safe height above the waterline, so that water entry will
not be possible, please refer to illustration 1.
8.
Acquire a spacer (15) which projects the same distance
from the hull as the sensor arm (dimension x). The spacer
should have at least the same area as the bracket (16).
9.
Fix the spacer to the hull in a suitable manner. This should
be placed by the cable as shown in illustration 3. Install
the bracket on the spacer. Then install the brace (17) over
the cable flange against the bracket, using flange screws
(18).
notE! This point can be done after points 10 and 11 if
this is found to be more suitable.
10.
Fix the cable end with the sensor arm, use ball joint (19)
and possibly ball joint (20), please refer to illustration 3.
notE! Do not use the ball joint (19 or 20) in any appli-
cations outside the boat. These parts are not stainless
steel. Only use the stainless ball joint assembly (7) in the
application to the clevis pin (8) outside the boat. If Volvo
Penta's rudder indicator is used, its arm must first be
replaced by the longer arm (21) in this kit. Lock the ball-
headed screw with nut (9).
11.
Install the sensor (13 or 14) to the hull, so that its arm
is at right angles to the cable when the rudder indicator
shows 0°. Please refer to illustration 3.
12.
Clamp the cable and the cable sheath. Check the 0°
position (rudder indication) on the sensor and adjust as
necessary.
