Operation
Putting the food serving trolleys into operation
20
In order to put the food serving trolleys into operation, the bowls of the appli-
ance must be cold, clean and free of limescale. If need be, bowls which have
already been used and from which the water has been completely drained off
must be allowed to cool for some time.
It is possible to dry heat the bowls without any risk, but because of the very
poor heat transfer this is not recommended by HUPFER
If bowls have been heated dry, on contact with cold water a great deal of steam
is generated. Danger of scalding!
In addition, deformations of the bowl base and the formation of microcracks
are possible. This may result in total damage to the appliance.
A layer of limescale acts as heat insulation and can lead to an accumulation
of heat above the tubular heating element; this may result in damage to the
base of the bowl.
In addition there is a danger of corrosion below the layer of limescale.
Observe the safety instructions from page 18 onwards.
Fill bowls
– Close drain cocks.
– Fill bowls with about 3 litres of water.
This corresponds to a water level of about 2 cm.
The GN containers (maximum depth 200 mm) used later should not have any
contact with the water, since this reduces the heat transmission. The best heat
transmission takes place through steam.
Higher filling levels prolong the heating-up time.
If the tap water has a high mineral content, softened water should be used in
order to reduce limescale.
Warm or hot water should be used for filling the bowl. This reduces the time
for heating up the appliance.
Switch on the appliance
– Cover bowls in order to avoid loss of heat.
– Insert appliance plug into a suitable socket with an earth contact.
Only use the plug connection provided for this. The appliance should not
be operated with a damaged connecting lead or other visible damage.
– Switch on the appliance with the ON/OFF switch.
The indicator integrated in the switch lights up to show that it is ready for
operation.
– Set the desired power with the regulator belonging to the bowl. A continous
adjustment is possible within the 4 power ranges. The assignment of the
switches to the bowls takes place by way of figures imprinted in the hous-
ing.
With a filling level of 2 cm (cold water), good covering and full appliance power
the water in the bowl reaches a temperature of 90 °C after about 45 minutes.
