Installation instructions
With this parts kit, the old double pole starter motor for the 2000 series engines is replaced by a single pole
starter motor (pos 1). The part No. of the starter motor is 872241-5.
This Installation Instruction applies to standard version 2000 series engines.
REMOVING THE STARTER MOTOR
Disconnect all wires from the starter motor. Remove the starter motor's two fastening bolts and remove the
starter motor. Take care of the bolts.
INSTALLING THE NEW STARTER MOTOR
1. Install the starter motor using the two existing
Allen bolts. Tightening torque: 50 +/-5 Nm (5.0
+/-0.5 kpm 37 +/-3 lbf ft).
2. Fit the relay (2) on the bracket (3) with 2 flange
screws m5x8 (4). Connect the black minus ca-
ble (SB-1,5) and the red/yellow control wire (Y/
R-1,5) on the relay as per Fig. 1 and 2. Now
connect the red/yellow cable in the motor's
switchbox. Use the Scotch lock clip. Note! Con-
nect to the red/yellow cable between the contact
piece and the relay. See Fig. 1 and 2. Fix the
cable with the bundle band.
Mount the earthing plate (10) to the relay. Do
not tighten the nut.
3. Fasten the bracket (3) to the engine using two
flange bolts M10x20 (5). At the same time, fit
the earthing bracket to the upper bolt. Place the
serrated washer (8) between the bracket and
the earthing plate.

4. Tighten the earthing plate's fastening nut on the
relay and push on the protective cap (11).
5. Connect the wires as shown in figure 1 and the
wiring diagram.
6. Note! Minus pole relay (-): The black wire
(strapping, relay) connected in point 2 above
and the black wire from the alternator connected
with the high nut (6). The black cable from the
battery is connected outermost to the high nut
with flange bolt M8x16 (7).
7. Fasten the sticker (12) on the relay. The sticker
provides information about the negative connec-
tion of the relay.
