3. Unscrew the external damping adjustment knob retainer screw from the
left shaft bolt with a Phillips screwdriver. Remove the adjuster knob.
4. Partially loosen the air nut with a 10mm socket, tap air nut firmly with a
rubber mallet breaking shafts free from lower tube (see Fig. 8), and remove
bolts completely. Remove the 8mm cartridge retaining nut on damper side
and loosen the cartridge shaft from the lower by partially installing the
cartridge retaining nut onto the damper shaft. Place an 8mm socket over
the nut and firmly strike the socket.

Oil from the open oil bath will pour out of the bottom of the lower tube
when you take the shaft bolts off. Use a recycling container to catch the oil.
5. Slide off one-piece lower tube assembly (see Fig. 9).
6. Clean upper tubes and inspect for wear and/or damage (nicks, scratches, or
dings).
7. Pour oil out from lower tubes. Then clean internals of lower tubes, bushings
(two per leg), and Resi-wiper seal. A long 3/8" drive socket extension
wrapped in a lint-free rag works well.

Apply New and Improved Judy Butter to the surface of the four bushings, the
inside of the lower tubes and fill the pocket between the lips of the Resi-
wiper seal completely. Use a socket extension wrapped with cloth tape dipped
in Judy Butter to reach inside the lower tubes (see Fig. 10).

8. Smear RockShox fork oil or a thin layer of New and Improved Judy Butter to
the upper tubes under the fork boots.
9. Install lower tubes onto upper tubes, carefully engaging upper Resi-wiper seal
lip with the upper tubes and gently rock the one-piece lower assembly to engage lower bushings with
upper tubes. Stop short of engaging the shafts into the counterbore.
10. Turn the fork upside down and fill each lower leg with 10cc of 15 wt. RockShox oil by pouring the oil
through the shaft holes in the bottom of the lower legs.
11. Now, fully engage the lower tubes with upper tubes by engaging the negative shafts into the
counterbore of the lower tubes.
12. Install crush washers onto each of the shaft nuts. The plastic surface must be facing the lower tube.
13. Apply Vibra-Tite and Refit shaft nuts. Use a 8mm hex wrench to torque cartridge retaining nut to 65
in-lb. (6.8Nm). Use a 10mm socket to torque the air nut to 40in-lb (4.5Nm)
14. Install the external damping adjuster with a Phillips screwdriver.

1. Clean mud and debris from the top cap.
2. Remove the air cap and release the pressure in the negative air chamber first, followed by the main
chamber.
3. Remove the top cap with a 22mm wrench or socket.
4. Inspect the o-ring for wear or damage. Replace the o-ring if there is any damage.
5. Lightly grease the top cap, o-ring and threads with Judy Butter.

To Remove the quad seals:
1. Inspect the piston quad ring and the glide ring on the piston. Replace if
necessary.
2. Grease the piston with New and Improved Judy Butter.
3. With a small flat screw driver, carefully pry the piston quad ring out of the
groove and replace with a new one.
4. Slowly slide the new quad ring onto the seal gland. Make sure the quad ring is
seated square with no twisting.
5. Then, carefully slide the glide ring onto the piston from the top side of the
piston.
I
NSPECTING THE
Visually inspect the upper tubes for wear or damage, inside and out. The upper tubes should be free from nicks
or scratches where the piston assembly rides. Nicks and scratches can cause leak paths in the fork preventing
it from holding pressure. If there are nicks or scratches you must replace your upper tube assembly.
