Gasoline is extremely flammable. Stay
clear of open flames and do not spill
any fuel.
Do not smoke at the work site and the
refueling site!
Always shut off the motor before refueling.
5.If the motor is still hot, you cannot refuel -
fire hazard!
6.Always open the fuel cap with caution, so
that existing excess pressure can be slowly
dissipated, and so that no fuel sprays out.
7.Fuels can contain solvent-like substances. Pre-
vent mineral products from coming into contact
with skin and eyes. Wear gloves when refueling.
Change and clean work clothes often.
8.Please insure that no fuel or oil seeps into
the soil (environmental protection) Use a suit-
able ground cover.
9.Do not inhale fuel vapors.
10.Only refuel in well-ventilated locations.
11.If fuel has been spilled, then the device must
be cleaned immediately. If clothing is contami-
nated, then it must be changed immediately.
12.Always tighten the tank cap firmly. This
reduces the risk of the fuel cap becoming
loose due to motor vibration and fuel escapes.
13.Watch for leaks, Do not start or work if fuel
is escaping. Life-threatening hazard is present
through burning injury!
14.Only store fuel and oil in prescribed and
correctly labeled containers.
4.4 When transporting the device
Always turn off the motor when transporting
the device!
Never carry or transport the motor scythe with
the engine running.
Always cover the cutters with blade protec-
tors, when transporting the equipment over
longer distances (Fig. 4).
To prevent fuel running out and associated
damages, the device should be secured
against tipping over during vehicle transport.
Check the tank for leaks. It is advisable to
drain the tank before transportation.
Drain the tank before despatching the equipment.
4.5 Before starting
Check the power tool before starting to insure
readiness for operation.
Also check the ignition cable and spark plug
cap for perfect fit. Loose connections can
cause sparks which can ignite any expelled
fuel-air mixture - risk of fire.
The impeller and the blower casing must be
22
in a problem-free condition. Damage to the
blower casing can lead to an injury hazard
through escaping foreign objects.
In this case do not use the device, have it
checked by a dealer.
The stop switch must move easily from the on
to off positions.
The gas throttle must have freedom of move-
ment and return to the idle position of it own
accord. 5. The cutters and touch protection must
be tightly secured and in perfect condition.
4.6 When starting
1.When starting, keep a distance of at least 3
meters from the refueling location, and never
start the device in enclosed areas.
2.Make sure that you standing firmly on the
ground when starting. Always start on even
ground, with a firm grip on the power tool.
3.The power tool may only be operated by
one person - no other people should be within
a radius of 5 m -even when starting.
4.Execute the start process as described in
Chapter "7. Start motor/stop motor".
4.7 When working
Only use this motorised equipment when it is
complete and in a safe condition.
As soon as the motor is running the
power tool generates toxic gases, that
can be invisible and odourless. Never
work in enclosed areas with the power
tool. In confined conditions such as
pits or excavations insure adequate air
exchange when working.
Do not smoke at the work site and in
the immediate vicinity of the power
tool. There is an increased fire hazard!
4.Work conscientiously, thoughtfully and
calmly, and do not endanger other people.
5.Pay attention to good visibility and lighting
conditions.
6.Always remain within earshot of other people
who can provide help in the case of emergency.
7.Plan for timely work breaks.
8.Pay attention to possible hazard sources and
meet the appropriate precautionary measures.
Be aware that when wearing hearing protec-
tion the ability to perceive noises is limited.
This includes sounds alerting to danger such as
signals, shouts, etc. that can go unnoticed.
9. Always grasp the power tool firmly and
always pay attention to safe and stable stand-
ing position.
