Set the Continuous / Demand Flow Switch for the desired oxygen
delivery mode — continuous oxygen flow or flow only during the
inspiratory part of each breath (Figure 16).
Demand Flow
(flows from 1 to 6 L/min only

NOTE: The demand flow mode should be used at flow
settings of 1 to 6 L/min only. Use of the demand flow mode
below 1 L/min may shorten planned use time as compared to
continuous flow. Slightly elevated blood oxygen levels may
result if the demand flow mode is selected at flows equal to
or less than 1 L/min.
NOTE: With the Companion 550 in the demand flow mode,
you may experience continuous flow from the oxygen outlet
when using the unit immediately after filling. If this is the
case, normal demand flow operation should be evident
within approximately 10 minutes.
