2. Forced ventilation
Forced cooling using a fan is sometimes required.
Please refer to the following recommendations:
− Consider the maximum ambient temperature of the
installation site including the heating effect of the
capacitor installation itself.
− Consider the heat dissipated from all the com-
ponents and apparatus in the cubicle: reactors,
capacitors, contactors, fuses, etc.
− Consider the maximum permissible temperatures for
all the components and apparatus.
− Consider how to direct the airflow with respect to the
position of the capacitors (Fig. #11).
3. The use of an overtemperature protection is recom-
mended in order to switch the bank off in case of fan
failure or overtemperature due to other cause.
4. Regular maintenance and cleaning of any filters is
necessary. Without regular cleaning the cooling system
may become inefficient.
CLMD03 fixation (Fig. #12)
Four fixation holes are provided for M6 screws (not inclu-
ded). At least two of the fixation holes must be used in a
symmetrical way (Fig. #13).
Make sure that the rigidity of the support and the screws
are sufficient to bear the weight of the CLMD03 capacitor
unit(s).
Electrical connection
Power supply
CLMD03 is available as a unit that houses either a single
capacitor or two individual capacitors in the same case.
Consequently one (Fig. #14) or two (Fig. #15) sets of
3-phase terminals are provided.
Cables should be rated at minimum 1.5 times the nomi-
nal capacitor current.
Appropriate cable shoes must be used in accordance
with good common practice of electrical installation.
While tightening the bolt, a torque of 6Nm must be
applied for proper electrical connection (according to
DIN46-200).
Ensure that all connections are tight. If there is an optio-
nal top cover, ensure that it is properly fixed (see section
'Optional accessories' below).
Earthing
Earthing is achieved through fixation points of the
CLMD03 enclosure. Remark: this implies that an extra
cable between the CLMD03 enclosure and the earthing
contact of the installation is required in case the CLMD03
unit is fixed on an isolating material.
Harmonics
Installation of capacitors on networks disturbed by har-
monics may require special precautions especially when
there is a risk of resonance phenomena.
Commissioning
With the equipment isolated from the supply, check:
− Cabling is properly connected (earthing may be
considered)
− Ambient ventilation is adequate
− Correct tightness of the connections
− IP20 top cover is well fixed, if any (see section

"Optional accessories")

Optional accessories
Top cover
The optional top cover allows the CLMD03 unit to get
IP20 protected as per the IEC 60529 provided that
appropriate glands or grummets are used. Fix it properly
with the 4 push-screws (delivered with the top cover)
(Fig. #16.1 & 16.2). This protection cover prevents people
from touching live part of the CLMD03 unit especially
when exposed in open areas.
We recommend to drill hole(s) in the top cover with a hole
saw at the appropriate side. Three bosses are provided
in the top cover for the use of cable glands up to the
standard size PG29 (two small bosses for dual capacitor
units) or PG36 (one large boss for single capacitor units).
Cable grummets are also allowed.
Discharge resistor
The CLMD03 capacitor unit is delivered with factory-ins-
talled discharge resistors to comply with IEC 60831 and
allow a decrease of the residual voltage to less than 50V
after 1 min. disconnection from supply. Make sure the de-
lay before the CLMD03 is re-energized is not shorter than
40 sec. Failure to follow this rule may cause damage and
reduce the lifetime of the capacitor.
Maintenance
1. Ensure safety procedures are completed (see para-
graph "Safety");
2. Yearly maintenance should include:
− Removal of dust deposits, cleaning of all parts;
− Check of tightness of all electrical connections;
− Check of ambient temperature;
− Check condition of discharge resistors.
