Flash-ready indication

When the flash capacitor on the flash unit is
charged, the flash-ready indication
up, thus indicating that the flash unit is ready.
The means that the flash unit is ready for
the next shot. On the other hand, the symbol
for flash operating mode in the display of the
LEICA D–LUX 4 with an attached LEICA CF 22
only indicates whether the flash unit is swit-
ched on or off.
When the LEICA CF 22 is switched on, another
symbol appears in the camera LC Display that
indicates that a flash unit has been attached
( / , see also "Settings on the LEICA
D-LUX 4 for operation with the LEICA CF 22",
p. 29).
If a photograph is taken before the flash-ready
indication appears, the flash unit will not be
triggered and under some conditions, the shot
will be incorrectly illuminated if the camera
has already switched over to flash sync speed.
A test flash can be manually triggered in a
flash unit that is in ready mode (e.g. as a func-
tional test).
Exposure control indication
The exposure control indication
for approx. 3 s in the LC Display of the flash
(6) lights
unit when a shot in TTL- flash mode is correct-
ly exposed. If the exposure control indication
o.k.
is not displayed, the shot is under-ex-
posed and you must select the next lowest
aperture speed (e.g. Aperture 4 instead of 5.6)
and/or increase the sensitivity (e.g. ISO 200
instead of 100) and/or reduce the distance to
the subject and take the shot again. Note the
range indication in the LC Display of the flash
unit (2b, see also "Automatic flash range indi-
cation", p. 33).

Automatic flash range indication

In the flash modes
a range or distance display (2b) appears in the
LC Display (2) of the flash unit. This does not
occur until data has been exchanged between
the flash unit and the camera. To initiate the
data exchange, gently press the camera re-
lease button when the camera is switched on.
