The object material indicator (m) can show the following
properties:

Non-magnetic, but metal, e.g. copper pipe

The live cable indicator (n) can show the following proper-
ties:
–
Live
Note: No further property is displayed for live ob-
jects.
–
? Unclear whether live or not
Note: Three-phase power cables may not be recognised as
live cables.
High relative humidity (>50 %) can significantly limit the
measuring tool's ability to detect the property "live".
Location of objects
To locate objects, moving the measuring tool once over the
measuring path is sufficient.
If you do not find an object, repeat the movement perpendic-
ular to the original measurement direction (see "How it
works (see figure B)", page 16).
To identify the exact location of a detected object and to
mark the object, move the measuring tool back over the
measuring path.

When an object appears in the centre below the centre
line (k) on the display (16), as in the example, you can mark
it roughly with the top marking aid (1). This marking will only
be accurate if the object is straight and positioned exactly
vertically, as the sensor area is located slightly below the top
marking aid.

To mark the object accurately on the wall, move the measur-
ing tool to the left or right until the found object is located
below an outer edge. When the found object is, for example,
shown in the centre of the display (16) below the dashed

right-hand line (g), you can mark it accurately using the right
marking aid (3).
The course of a detected object in the wall can be determ-
ined by covering several measuring paths one after the other
(see figure I) (see "Examples of measuring results",
page 19). Mark and connect each of the measurement
points.
Press the start button (11) to delete the display of a detec-
ted object at any time and to start a new measurement.
Changing the operating mode
Use the select buttons (10) and (12) to switch between the
different operating modes.
– Briefly press the select button (10), to select the next op-
erating mode.
– Briefly press the select button (12), to select the previ-
ous operating mode.
By selecting the operating modes, you can adjust the meas-
uring tool to different wall materials and, if required, sup-
press unwanted objects (e.g. cavities in building brick). The
mode currently set is visible in the (h) area of the display.
<Universal mode> (default)
<Universal mode> is suitable for most applications in ma-
sonry or concrete. It displays plastic and metal objects, as
well as electrical cables. Cavities in building brick or empty
plastic pipes with a diameter of less than 2 cm may not be
displayed. The maximum measuring depth is 6 cm.
<Concrete deep>
The operating mode <Concrete deep> is especially suitable
for applications in reinforced concrete. It displays reinfor-
cing steel, plastic and metal pipes, as well as electrical
cables. The maximum measuring depth is 15 cm.
<Panel heating>
The operating mode <Panel heating> is especially suitable
for detecting metal, metal-composite and water-filled plastic
pipes and electrical cables. Empty plastic pipes are not dis-
played. The maximum measuring depth is 8 cm.
<Drywall>
The operating mode <Drywall> is suitable for locating
wooden beams, metal supports and electrical cables in dry-
walls (wood, plasterboard, etc.). Filled plastic pipes and
wooden beams appear identical on the display. Empty
plastic pipes are not recognised. The maximum measuring
depth is 6 cm.
<Hollow block>
The operating mode <Hollow block> is suitable for walls
with large numbers of air pockets. It detects metal objects
and live electrical cables. High relative humidity (>50 %) can
significantly limit the measuring tool's ability to detect ob-
jects.
(3)
Plastic pipes and non-live electrical cables are not detected.
The maximum measuring depth is 6 cm.
