UNDERSTAND AND FOLLOW THESE
INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY!
This device was designed to offer you the degree of safety expected from
personal protective equipment in accordance with the Directive 89/686/EEC.
Important recommendations:
a) Use of this product is feasible only in combination with other parts of the
total equipment needed. Therefore check carefully whether the product is
compatible with other parts/components of the said equipment. Each of
the components constituting the system ought to have the relevant CE
CERTIFICATE.
b) Lifetime of this product will be extended if it is used with care. In particular
avoid rubbing against abrasive surfaces and/or sharp edges.
SAFETY MEASURES AND WARNINGS
a) There are innumerable and even unimaginable possible modes of use of
these devices. Only techniques shown in the figures that are not crossed
out or displaying a skull are recommended and covered by the warranty.
b) This product must be used exclusively by adequately skilled persons
otherwise the user must be constantly supervised by trained personnel,
who must guarantee for the safety. This includes liability against damages,
injuries and death incurred by improper use or misuse of the equipment.
c) Do not hesitate to retire the device after a major fall or a major impact. It
may cause internal or invisible damage that may significantly weaken its
strength. In case of uncertainty treat the device as damaged or consult
ANTHRON.
d) Regular periodical inspections should be carried out by an authorised
person at least once a year. For this purpose an inspection record should
be established (see the backside of these instructions). Furthermore
we would sincerely recommend one set of equipment is used by one
person only as its history of use is best traced and understood in this way.
Reject to use any retired or not regularly inspected devices. These devices
must be destroyed to prevent any further use.
e) The locking action of the device may be considerably reduced if the device
or the rope is dirty, oily, muddy or icy.
f) Prolonged use in salty environments (e.g. sea cliffs) may affect the
performance of the product.
g) Do not expose the device to significant heat or cold (see work and stock
temperature).
h) Avoid any contact with chemical reagents as they may affect the
performance of this product. Contact the producer if in doubt.
I) This product may be used combined with personal protective equipment
conforming to Directive 89/686/EEC and compatibly with the relevant info.
j) It is essential to assess the reliability and security of the entire safety
system you are relying on (adequate resistance of the anchors (EN 795)
and their correct positioning to arrest a fall and prevent pendulum effects,
correct positioning of the ropes – e.g. no slack, protecting sharp edges,
i
redundancy, etc.).
OPERATION OF THE DEVICES
Rope clamps are designed for progression along a working line and are not
meant to be used in a fall arrest system. Any overload or dynamic loading of the
rope clamp may damage the anchor line.
Before and after each use it is essential to check carefully the device and verify
its integrity. Before each use carry out an operational test of the device by test-
loading it with your body weight while secured by other means.
Figure 1: ATTACHING THE DEVICE TO THE ROPE
To open the cam pull the safety catch down and out with your thumb and lock it
on the body of the device. Put the rope in the slot between the cam and the
frame of the device and swing back the cam in the locking position by pressing
the safety catch downwards. To remove the rope, slide the device gently
upwards along the rope and simultaneously unlock the safety catch. Before
starting to climb verify that the device jams correctly the rope. Guard against
anything that might switch the device open or impede its correct working
(clothing, cobbles, mud, twigs...).
Figure 2: ASCENT AND DESCENT
Slide the device upwards along the rope and pull yourself up as it jams the
rope. Always keep the device parallel to the rope direction. For short sections
of descent push the cam with your thumb in the extreme closed position so that
the cam detaches from the rope and pull the device downwards. (Lanyards not
shown for clarity).
Figure 3: CORRECT USE
To avoid slippage never try to twist the device in any direction on a taut rope or
load it at an angle with the rope. If not possible, clip a carabiner through the
upper hole or clip your lanyard carabiner on the rope as shown on the figure.
Figure 4: PROGRESSION ON THE ROPE
Lanyards connecting the rope clamp to the harness should be made out of
single dynamic rope (EN 892) and should with connectors not exceed the
length of 1m. For rope access at work, a safety line with a fall arrester must be
used in addition to the working line. When the adjustable anchor line is loaded
by full weight of the user it becomes a working line.
Figure 5: PROGRESSION WITH THE AID OF THE STRUCTURE (SELF
BELAYING)
Because of a danger of a fall a 10 mm or thicker rope must be used.
