European standards in force (EN) are applied.
- In particular, ensure that no safety function of any component
is affected by the safety function of another component and
that they do not interfere with each other.
USE :
- For safety, it is essential for the anchor point to always be
correctly positioned as close as possible in order to minimise
the risk of falling and the height of any fall. The anchor point
on the structure where the fall-arrest system will be fixed must
be above the user. It must also comply with the minimum
resistance requirements specified in the EN795:2012 standard
(R ≥ 1200 DaN).
- Before every use, the empty space (clearance) required under
the user must be verified so that, in case of a fall, there is no
collision with the ground, or with a fixed or moving obstacle
that is within the fall trajectory.
- Try not to distance yourself too much from this anchor point in
order to limit the impact of a possible pendulum fall.
- The use of the harness with a fall-arrest subsystem must be
compatible with the instructions for use of each component
of the system and with the standards: EN353-1 / EN353-2 / EN
355 / EN360 / EN 362.
- For mobile fall-arrest systems including a rigid (EN353-1) or
flexible (EN353-2) belay support, it is recommended to connect
the harness using the sternum anchor points.
- For energy absorbers (EN355) or self-retracting fall-arrest
systems (EN360), connect the harness to the dorsal anchor
point.
- The tool holders must not be used as hooking points under
any circumstances.
- When using a lanyard for work positioning and restraint (EN
358:1999), its anchor point must be located at the waist or
above. This lanyard must be kept taut and the free travel must
be limited to a maximum of 0.6 metres. Both lateral hooking
D-rings must systematically be used together when connected
to this lanyard. Note that these connections are established
using a connector that complies with the EN 362 standard.
- The ventral hooking D-ring (EN 813:2008) allows using the
ALT'O harness in suspension with a rope access system (EN
12841). In this case, the anchor point must be located above
the user.
- Despite the lining of the thigh-straps, numbness and pinching
may occur at the top of the thigh, thus resulting in a risk of
suspension trauma. To avoid this phenomenon, it is necessary
to regularly take a break from being suspended, or if this is not
possible, to shift the suspension strain alternatively from one
leg to the other and use movements to relax the leg muscles
with the freed leg.
- The lateral (EN 358:1999) and ventral (EN 813:2008) hooking
D-rings are not designed for and must not be used as a fall-
arrest system. It may be necessary to combine the work
positioning and restraint systems with fall-protection systems,
either collective (e.g. safety net) or individual (fall-arrest system
compliant with EN 363). Please note that in a fall-arrest system,
only an EN361-compliant fall-arrest harness may be used for
gripping a body.
- Dynamic tests have been conducted with a weight of 140 Kg.
ALT'O can therefore be used by a person weighing ≤ 140 Kg
but, while use by a person weighing ≤ 100 Kg is covered by
the PPE directive, use by a person weighing more than 100 Kg
is not.
- During use, regularly check the harness fastening and
adjustment parts; These components must be protected from
any environmental stress: mechanical stress (impacts, sharp
edges, etc.), chemical stress (splashing of acids, bases, solvents,
etc.), electrical stress (short-circuit, electric arcs, etc.) or thermal
stress (hot surfaces, blowtorches, etc.).
- Authorised temperature limits: No contraindications for use
between –30 and +50°C.
- If this product is to be resold outside the first destination
country, the reseller must provide this instructions manual,
drafted in the language of the country in which the product
will be used.
TRANSPORTATION/PACKAGING/STORAGE :
- The equipment must be protected when not in use, in a rot-
proof protective packaging.
- During transportation, protect it from impacts or pressure that
may result from the immediate environment.
- Store it in a dry, ventilated room that is sheltered from
ultraviolet rays, frost and corrosion.

MAINTENANCE/REPAIR :

To preserve the properties of this equipment, the maintenance
recommendations must be followed:
- The equipment must be cleaned and disinfected only
with cold water and a neutral soap; never use detergents or
chemical products.
- Dry in a ventilated area, far from any flame or a direct source
of heat.
Any modification or repair is forbidden and this equipment
must not be used for any purpose other than what it has been
designed for or pushed beyond its limits. The equipment that
has been through a fall must be destroyed to prevent it from
being reused.
PERIODIC EXAMINATION :
- Service life: The equipment is designed to last for several
years under normal conditions. The service life depends on the
frequency of use and the circumstances.
- Certain particularly aggressive, marine, siliceous or chemical
environments can reduce the service life of the equipment
to only a few uses. In these cases, special care must be taken
regarding the protection and the inspections before use.
Ensure that the necessary markings are readable.
- A periodic inspection carried out by a competent inspector is
necessary to ensure the safety of the user, which is connected
to the maintenance of the effectiveness and resistance of the
equipment. A mandatory annual inspection will check the
condition of the equipment and it can only continue to be used
on obtaining a prior written agreement. As concerns what has
been mentioned above, the rough estimate of the service life
of the products, as recommended by the marketing authority,
is 10 years.
- Ensure that the identification sheet and the maintenance
monitoring table are kept up to date from the time of the
commissioning and during each inspection.
