PROBLEM
Failure to pump
Pump not properly primed.
Speed too low.
Total head more than that for which pump was
intended.
Excessive suction lift.
Reduced capacity
Air pockets or leaks in suction line.
and/or head
Clogged impeller, suction line or foot valve.
Reverse impeller rotation.
Insufficient submergence of suction line.
Excessive suction lift.
Total head was more than that for which pump was
intended.
Excessively worn impeller.
Pump loses prime
Air leaks in suction line.
Excessive suction lift and operating too near shut-
off point.
Water level drops while pumping, uncovering suction
piping.
Mechanical trouble
Bent shaft and/or damaged bearings.

Suction and/or discharge piping not properly sup-
ported and anchored.
Misalignment.
Seal leaking due to corrosion of sealing faces.

TROUBLESHOOTING

PROBABLE CAUSE

CORRECTIVE ACTION
Check that pump casing and suction line are full.
Check RPM of source. See INSTALLATION.
A pump designed for higher head is needed.
Locate pump closer to water. Suction losses.
Check suction piping.
Remove and clean.
Check impeller rotation against arrow on casing.
Add lengths of suction pipe to keep submerged.
Locate pump closer to source of water.
A pump designed for higher head is needed.
Order replacement parts using Repair Parts.
Check suction piping.
Move pump nearer water.
Check water supply. Add length of pipe to suction
to keep submerged and under water.
Inspect shaft and bearings, replace if necessary.
Check that all piping is supported to relieve strain
on pump assembly.
Check alignment of shafts for parallelism.
The pump seal supplied is for a fresh water use.
