B) INSTALLING THE CONNECTION BOX
Choose a suitable site for the connection box. This could be on the lower righthand side of the
vehicle's central console, as shown in Figure 9. (For motorbike mounting, the connection box should be
installed in a position protected from water). The box is positioned so that the red potentiometer (volume
adjustment) faces the inside of the vehicle (see Fig.9, Page. 48). Ensure that the telephone wire leading
from the amplifier is long enough to reach the chosen site, and the power cable to +12 V.
Using the box as a template, mark the two holes to be drilled. Drill the holes with a 3 mm bit and
screw down the box with the cylindrical self-tapping screws 4.2 x 38.
Figure 10, (Page.48) , shows the control head fitted into its base and connected up to the
connection box.
NOTE: Although the two connection box connectors are identical, the connections should not be
inverted. The connector next to the positive terminal will always be connected to the amplifier.
INSTALLATION OF THE AMPLIFIER
Choose a suitable mounting location for the amplifier, preferably below the dashboard, below a
seat, in the boot etc. We do not recommend it to be installed in the engine compartment. If there is no
other alternative, it will be necessary to find a place which does not receive splashes of water and which
is far from sources generating heat.
Bear in mind that the telephone wire leading from the control head must be long enough to reach
the chosen site and that the wiring linking the amplifier to the battery, the horn relay, the siren speaker,
the radiotelephone speaker and the main warning and auxiliary light circuits must also be installed. The
telephone wire is 3 m in length, which should be sufficient to reach the site selected. If the wire is too long,
leave it rolled up in a concealed place. If the wire is too short, prepare a new wire of the correct length.
If the installer does not have the means to do this, the VAMA Technical Assistance Service may be able
to help. The installer must also cut the other wires, if too long, or add wire of the same section if the
amplifier housing is too far away.
The amplifier is supplied mounted on its base. It should be noted that the amplifier has lateral
protrusions which are introduced into the gooves of the base and which are fixed on being moved along
the grooves. To remove the amplifier from the base, push the amplifier against its base and move it at the
same time until the protusions reach the end of the groove and the amplifier is free (see Fig.11, Page48).
Use the base as a template to mark the 4 drill holes (see Fig.12, Page.48).
Use a 3 mm drill bit if self-tapping screws 3.9 x 13 are going to be used, or a 5 mm bit if screws
M4 x 15, flat washers, pressure washers and nuts M4 are going to be used. Ensure that there are no parts
which could be damaged, before beginning to drill.
When the base is fixed in position, re-mount the amplifier (see Fig. 13, Page.48).
Fig. 14, (Page.49) shows a possible mounting of the amplifier on a motorbike.
WIRING
The wiring up is effected as shown in the wiring diagram shown on page 25: "wiring diagram 1".
The amplifier is normally supplied with the internal bridges placed in the position "non-detection
of lamp failure". To identify these in the amplifier printed circuit board, refer to the page.45:
"COMPONENTS LAYOUT".
