rapid clinical thermometer SC 42 TM
(Reer article number 9840)
with flexible measuring point
Instructions for use
We congratulate you on the purchase of this quality product from REER. Please read the
instructions for use before using for the first time.
Special features:
The SC 42 TM is a maximum thermometer, i.e. the highest temperature is displayed after
only 30 seconds. The most recent measured value is always saved.
Safety information:
The SC 42 TM is suitable only for measuring human body temperatures.
The thermometer contains small parts (batteries, etc) which could be swallowed by small
children. Please keep the thermometer and its batteries out of the reach of small children. If
the battery or other parts are swallowed you should seek medical help immediately.
The enclosed batteries may not be recharged or reactivated by other methods, may not be
dismantled, thrown into fires or short-circuited. Batteries must be disposed of properly.
Suitable methods for the disposal of batteries include returning them to the place of purchase
or disposal in communal collection points.
Protect the SC 42 TM from direct sunshine and temperatures above 50°C.
Never drop the SC 42 TM 0, do not bend or open it (with the exception of the battery
compartment for battery replacement).
Operating manual:
Press the I/O button to switch on. A short signal tone shows that the device is in the "switched
on" condition. A segment test takes place simultaneously (checks all display segments and
carries out an internal function test (see under "Function test")).
Temperature sensor
Battery compartment cover
After this, if the temperature measured by the temperature sensor is less than 32°C, the display
shows an "L" and "°C". After around one second, the "°C" starts to blink. The „L" stands for low
(less than 32°C).
- 1 -
The current temperature is continuously displayed during measurement, and the "°C" blinks during
the entire measurement time. The measurement is completed after around 30 seconds.
If the measurement is taken orally or rectally, the approximate final temperature is shown after
about 30 seconds and changes only marginally after this time. A measurement period of between
five and 10 minutes must be observed for the underarm measurement method. The signal tone
can be sounded several times during this period. Since the contact between the temperature
sensor and the armpit is not as good as those for oral and rectal measurements, the temperature
rise is slower which causes this effect.
After the measurement is completed, the temperature value measured remains in the display until
the SC 42 TM is switched off. To turn the device off after use, press the I/O button briefly. The
signal tone will again be sounded. If the device is not switched off, a signal tone is sounded after
around 8 minutes and the device then switches off automatically.
Display of last measured value:
If you keep the I/O button pressed for longer than three seconds, the last measured value will be
shown in the display. As soon as you release the I/O button, the device is ready to take
measurements.
Function test:
The thermometer is checked for correct functioning automatically every time it is switched on. All
segments are displayed, and then L°C. If a failure (measurement inaccuracy) is recognised,
"ERR" (Error) is shown in the display.
Measured value deviation:
The measured temperatures will always deviate, depending on the measurement location. This is
normal, and caused by deviations in temperature distribution on the human body. You could, for
example, measure a rectal temperature of 36.6°C, an oral temperature of 36.1°C and an
underarm value of 35.6°C.
Measurement locations:
In the mouth (oral)
Small temperature variations in the mouth between
measurements are normal. These are caused by
varying temperature distribution within the mouth. Try
to place the thermometer in one of the two heat
pockets under the tongue, to the left and right of the
tongue root. The measurement sensor must have
good contact with the tissue. The subject should
close the mouth and breathe
normally through the nose so that the measured result is not affected by breathed air.
Measuring period: approx. 30 seconds
In the anus (rectal)
This is the safest method. It is particularly suitable for infants and small children. Guide the
thermometer point carefully 2 cm into the anus. Measuring period: approx. 30 seconds.
Under the arm (axillary)
From a medical viewpoint this type of measurement leads to inaccurate values. It is therefore
unsuitable for carrying out exact measurements.
Measuring period: 5 to 10 minutes.
Measuring the basal body temperature
The device can also be comfortably and practically used for the measurement of fertile or unfertile
days in the female cycle using the temperature measurement method.
Changing the battery:
As soon as the
replacement. Always replace the discharged battery with one of the same type. To do this,
proceed as follows:
0/I button
Pull the cover off the battery compartment. The battery can now be accessed. Remove the used
battery with the help of a pointed object (pincers, small screwdriver etc) and put the new battery (
LR 41 or SR 41) in. Please make sure it is the right way round. You can purchase batteries from
jewellers or electrical shops.
Measurement checks:
Checking the accuracy of the SC 42 TM is not necessary in most cases. If you require a
measurement check (at your expense), please send the SC 42 TM to our customer service
address. Please make sure it is well-packaged and that the correct postage stamps are applied.
Cleaning and disinfection
Please use an alcohol pad only. Each pharmacy sells alcohol pads from different suppliers.

We recommend the use of Mucocit-F2000 or HelipurHplus to disinfect the device during use in
medical facilities. Both are effective against all hospital-typical pathogens and can be purchased
from any dispensing chemist.
Disposal note
The disposal of batteries is regulated. Spent batteries are collected at collection points provided
by battery dealers and the communities.
Dispose of the blood pressure monitor as prescribed. i.e., at a collection point for electrical scrap.
