Destination and use
The solenoid interlock AZM 161 has been designed to prevent mov able safety guards
in conjunction with the control part of a machine from being opened before hazardous
conditions have been eliminated.
Notice
The declaration of conformity according to the Machi nery and Low Voltage Directive can
be mailed to you on re quest or can be drawn from our website. For more technical
information, please refer to the Schmersal Main Catalogue or the online Catalogue on
our website www.schmersal.com.
Subject to technical modifications.
Mounting
The electrical connection may only be carried out by an authorized person.
There are three boreholes for mounting the solenoid interlock. The solenoid interlock has
protecive insulation. A connection of a protective lead is not allowed. The solenoid inter-
lock must not be used as end stop. It can be mounted in any desired position. Though
it should be mounted in such a way that dirt cannot enter the actuator opening. The
re maining actuator openings must be sealed with the provided slot sealing plugs. Please
observe the instructions in standards EN ISO 12100, EN 953 and EN 1088.
Mounting of the actuators
See mounting instructions actuators
Wiring and sealing
Appropriate cable glands with a suitable degree of protection are to be used.
Remove the thin walls of the mounting holes by inserting the cable entry.
Notice
At least one magnetic contact with positive break
circuit.
Maintenance
By use in extreme conditions, we recommend routine maintenance als follows:
1. Check for tight installation of the actuator and the switch
2. Remove all debries or particles
3. Check cable entries and terminal connections

Manual release (for set-up, maintenance, etc.)
The manual release of the solenoid interlock is activated by turning the triangle located
on the side of the switch (M5 triangular key available as accessory), so that the latching
bolt is put into unlocked position. The normal locking function is restored by returning the
triangle to its original position. After use, the manual release must be secured by means
of the enclosed plastic cap.

release
Emergency release (Mounting only from outside the hazardous area!)
To activate the emergency release in case of an emergency, the orange lever must be
turned to the stop in the direction marked by the arrow. In this position, the safety guard
can be opened. The lever is latched and cannot be returned to its original position. To can-
cel the blocking condition, the central mounting screw must be loosened to such extent that
the lever can be turned back into its original position. The screw then must be retightened.

Emergency exit (Mounting and actuation only from within the hazardous area!)
To activate the emergency exit of the T version in case of an emergency, the orange
lever must be turned to the stop in direction marked by the arrow. The emergency exit
function of the TD and TU versions is activated by pressing the red pushbutton.
In this position, the safety guard can be opened. The blocking condition is cancelled by
turning the lever in opposite direction or by pulling back the pushbutton. In unlocked
position, the safety guard is protected against unintentional closing.
