Function and application
The slides 3 of the guide axis ELFR−... support a load so that it can move. Owing to
the coupling with a drive axis (e.g. ELFR−...), the slide moves forwards and back
wards. Extended or additional slides on the guide axis enable loading with higher
moments and forces.
The slide is guided using roller guides or plain−bearing guides (plain−bearing guide
for ELFR−GF). The reference position of the slide unit can be detected using an
inductive proximity sensor, switch lug and sensor bracket (è 9 Accessories).
The intended use of the guide axis ELFR is to form the basis of cantilever or gantry
systems using a drive axis ELGR and a passive guide axis ELFR. It is approved for
slide operating mode.
Note
The guide axis ELFR does not have automatic locking: if not coupled to the drive
axis, the slide can be moved freely.
· Adhere to the limit values for forces and speeds è chapters Technical data"
and Characteristic curves."

Transport and storage
Warning
During vertical transport, an unsecured slide unit can fall down (crushing).
· Transport the product with the transport packaging horizontally on the guide
rods.
· Take the product's weight into account. It weights up to 30 kg.
· Ensure the following storage conditions:
Short storage times
Cool, dry, shaded and corrosion−resistant storage locations
No oils, greases or grease−dissolving fumes

Requirements for product use
Note
Improper handling can result in malfunctions.
· Make sure that all the instructions in this chapter are always observed. This
ensures that the product will perform as intended.
· Compare the limits specified in these operating instructions with those of your
actual application (e. g. forces, moments, temperatures, masses, speeds).
Only observance of the load limits allows operation of the product in compliance
with the relevant safety regulations.
· Take into consideration the ambient conditions at the location of use.
Corrosive elements in the environment (e.g. ozone) will reduce the service life of
the product.
· Comply with the regulations of the German Technical Control Board (TÜV), trade
association or relevant national regulations.
· Remove transport packaging, such as foils and cardboard.
The packing is intended for recycling (except for: oiled paper = general waste).
· Use the product in its original state without any unauthorised modifications.
· Note the warnings and instructions on the product and in the relevant operating
instructions.
· Take the tolerance of the tightening torques into account. Unless otherwise
specified, the tolerance is ±20 %.

Installation

5.1 Mechanical installation

· Do not modify the screws and threaded pins if not directly requested to do so in
these operating instructions.
· Make sure that the device is fitted free of mechanical stress and distortion
(evenness of bearing surface 0.05% of the stroke length; at most correspon
ding to the sagging of the drive axis).
· Position the ELFR so that its operating elements can be reached.
· Observe the maximum sag è chapter 11. Technical data.
Note
Unsuitable mounting techniques can reduce the service life of the ELFR
considerably.
· Ensure that the guide axis ELFR, the drive axis ELGR and both slide units are
aligned parallel to each other within the total stroke travel.
· Make sure that the mounting components are outside the travel range of the
slide (e.g. protruding slot nuts).
· Make sure that the damping applies mainly on the load axis and that it is
correctly balanced if both axes are damped.
· Take into account the asymmetric
geometry of the ELFR.
Depending on the orientation, the
slide unit or bearing cap protrudes
beyond the contour by the dimension
l (observe position X of the proximity
sensor).
· Observe the screw−in depth t
max
when using slot nuts (è Fig. 5).
· Fasten the ELFR as follows:
