the failure of its heat transfer.
The reasons for the "non-wetting" soldering bit are as follows:
1 ) The soldering bit is not coated with new soldering tin before the soldering iron will be out of use for a long
time;
2) The soldering bit is used at a high temperature;
3) It is not fully melted during soldering;
4) The soldering bit is wiped with a dry or dirty sponge or cloth. It is required to use clean and wet industrial
grade sulfur-free sponge or brass wool for cleaning.
5) The solder or the iron coating is not pure, or the soldered surface is not clean.
C)
Recover a non-wetting soldering bit
1 ) Remove the soldering bit from the soldering iron handle after the bit is cooled down.
2) Remove dirt and oxides on the tin coating of the soldering bit with 80# polyurethane abrasive foam or 100#
emery paper.
3) Put the soldering bit into the handle, use the tin wire containing rosin(Φ0.8 mm or above)to wrap new
exposed surface of the bit and turn on the power switch of the soldering station.
Caution:
Proper daily maintenance will effectively prevent the soldering bit from non-wetting.
D) Extend the life of the soldering bit
1 ) Coat new soldering tin after each use, so as to prevent the oxidation of the soldering bit and extend its service
life.
2) Use a temperature as low as possible during working, because a low temperature can reduce the oxidation of
the soldering bit and make soldering of components easier.
3) Use a thin soldering bit only when necessary, as the tin coating of a thin bit is less durable that a thick bit.
4) Do not use the soldering bit as a detection tool, because the bit will crack once bent and its service life will be
shortened in this case.
5) Use the flux with less activated rosin, as too much activated rosin will accelerate the corrosion of the tin
coating on the soldering bit.
6) When not in use, turn off the power supply to extend the service life of the soldering iron.
7) Do not apply a high pressure to the soldering bit because a high pressure does not mean a fast heat transfer.
To improve the heat transfer, it is required to melt the soldering tin to form a solder bridge for heat transfer
between the soldering bit and the welding spot.
