15.3 Testing Saw Chain Lubrication

WARNING
Never operate your saw without bar and chain lubrication. If
the chain runs dry, the cutting attachment will be damaged
beyond repair within a very short time. A damaged chain
may break, resulting in severe or fatal personal injury.
Always check chain lubrication and the oil level in the tank
before starting work and periodically during work.

To confirm that the chain lubrication oil is flowing properly:
1
► Check the oil sight glass.
► If the oil level reads below the marking "OIL min" (1), refill
the oil tank with chain oil.
► Connect the chain saw to the power supply.
► Disengage the chain brake, @ 12.2.
► Point the guide bar toward a bright surface.
► Switch on the chain saw, @ 14.1.
The saw chain should throw off a small amount of oil.
If the chain lubrication oil cannot be seen, check the oil
tank for chain lubrication oil.
Refill the tank as necessary.
► Test the saw chain lubrication again.
► If saw chain lubrication oil is still not visible, the chain
lubrication mechanism is not functioning. Take the saw to
an authorized STIHL servicing dealer to be repaired
before use.
