c. The lower guard can be safely retracted only for special cuts such as "plunge cuts and com-
pound cuts". Raise the bottom guard by removing the handle, and as soon as the blade enters
the material, release the bottom guard. For all other sawing operations, the lower guard should
operate automatically.
d. Always note that the lower guard is covering the blade before placing the saw on the bench
or oor. A blade that slides unprotected will push the saw backward, cutting whatever is in
your way. Note the time it takes for the blade to stop after releasing the switch.
