The camsegment is the most critical part in the clamp and require extra attention during
08
inspection. Ensure in any event for good light during inspection. Observe the following
rules during every inspection:
Camsegment: Reject when the sharpness of one teeth is damaged or worn for 50% or
more.
The intermediate plate of the body (I) with this type of clamp can be crushed at the
position as indicated in illustration(s) 3 by the arrow in the picture. This is mainly due to
exceeding of the maximum side loading angles. The maximum loading angles are
displayed in the loading diagrams 1.
Also damage to the latch lever (A) can occur regularly. A hammer is used to open the
clamp after lifting in most of these cases, as opening the clamp by hand would be
impossible. If the clamp is being supported (see 1.3) and you pull the latch lever, it
should cause no problems.
Some illustrations have been included on the inside of the front cover of damaged and
worn (rejected) pivots and camsegments with explanations. In most cases however the
areas of damage are much less extensive. In doubtful cases an authorised repairer
should assess the clamp.
1.3
how to operate the clamp
IPBHZ - IPHGZ lifting clamps are suitable for horizontal lifting and transport of steel
plates, beams and structures.
See illustrations 4-8 for part reference.
1.
Open the clamp by pulling the latch lever (A) into the direction of the arrow (4).
2.
Place the clamp securely on the material to be lifted, so that the jaw of the clamp
rests against the plate or flange (E). Keep base against the load (5).
3.
Pull the latch lever (A) towards the lifting eye (D). The clamp will now close and will
remain on the plate in pretensioned position, allowing lifting to commence (6).
4.
As soon as the load is at its destination let the crane hook descend until the clamp
is fully free of load, meaning that the lifting chain is no longer taut and the lifting
eye (D) of the clamp can move freely (7).
5.
The clamp may now be removed from the load by pulling the latch lever (A) into
the direction of the arrow and simultaneously keeping the base of the body (N)
against the load. The clamp will open and may now be removed from the load (8).
