of the SOH (STATE OF HEALTH) and the SOC
(STATE OF CHARGE).
The display also shows one of the following
judgements on the battery:
- GOOD BATTERY:
No problems found on the battery.
- GOOD - CHARGE:
The battery is good, but must be charged.
- REPLACE:
The battery has come to the end of its life
cycle and should be replaced.
- FAULTY CELL:
The battery is damaged and has one or
more faulty or in short circuit cells.
- CHARGE AND TEST:
The battery must be charged and tested
again before deciding if it can be re-used.
If the next test gives the same judgement,
then the battery must be replaced.
4.2.2 Battery outside the vehicle
/
test, select "battery outside the vehicle"; this
means the battery is not connected to the
cranking system and the electrical power
supply system of the vehicle.
Elimination
of
accumulated by the battery is not planned
and the test may be carried out beginning by
entering the type, battery standard and CCA/
CA (see the previous paragraph).
4.2.3 Cranking test
-
/
vehicle test, select "battery inside the
vehicle" and then "Cranking Test".
- Before starting the engine, switch off all
the vehicle charges, such as the lights, air
conditioning, radio, etc.
- Follow the instructions provided on the
display.
- When the engine has started, the duration
of
cranking,
and minimum voltage detected to the
terminals of the battery during cranking
and the final judgement will be displayed.
Cranking is considered normal when the
minimum voltage during it is maintained
between 7.5V and 9.5V. If the voltage remains
under 7.5V, it means that the cranking
efficiency of the battery is reduced and
therefore it must be replaced

4.2.4 Charge test
-
vehicle test, select "battery inside the
vehicle" and then "Charge Test".
- Start the engine and keep all the
vehicle charges off such as the lights, air
conditioning, radio, etc. Leave the engine
in neutral at the minimum rotations.
- An increase in engine rotations will be
requested later: follow the instructions on
the display.
- Having completed the test, the detected
charge voltages (maximum and minimum)
and the ripple of the rectifying system will
be displayed.
NOTES:
1. LOW CHARGE VOLTAGE
If the voltage values are too low, the
alternator is not supplying sufficient
voltage to the electrical system and to
charge the battery. Check the belts to
ensure the alternator is rotating with the
engine running. If the belts are slipping
or broken, replace the belts and retest the
charge system. Check the connections
from the alternator to the battery. If the
charge
connection is slow or seriously corroded,
clean or replace the cable and retest. If
the belts and the connections are in good
condition, replace the alternator.
2. HIGH CHARGE VOLTAGE
If the output voltage from the alternator
to the battery exceeds the normal
operating limits for a regulator, ensure the
connections are not loose and that the
the
ground connection is regular.
If there are no connection problems,
replace the regulator. Many alternators
are equipped with an integrated regulator.
In this case, the alternator will need to be
replaced.
3. HIGH RIPPLE
If the ripple measured is high (consult
the manufacturer's technical data), the
voltage
rectifying and levelling system of the
charge voltage is NOT working properly.
Check the alternator is firmly assembled
and that the belts are in good condition
and working properly. If assembly and
the belts are good, assess replacing the
alternator/rectifying system.
