Torch Assembly
Torches are preassembled. The hose (with swivel nuts) is
connected between the regulator and the torch assembly.
a. Connect one end to hose adapter at regulator outlet.
b. Connect other end to hose adapter at torch inlet.
c. Tighten both swivel nuts securely.
NOTE: The Bertha 500 (model 166) torch does not
include a regulator as standard. The regulator
must be ordered as an accessory. Although
not included in the torch kit, it is required for
proper use when connecting to a propane gas
supply container
Connecting the Torch to
the Propane Gas Supply
(Industrial 250 & Bertha 500)
1. Remove the cap from the POL. Insert POL stem into
the valve on the propane gas supply. Thread the nut
counterclockwise into the propane supply valve. Tighten
the nut securely with a wrench. See Fig. 1.
2. Slowly open the tank valve. This will prevent lock-up of
the excess fl ow valve within POL stem.
3. Check all connections with approved leak detectors.
Do not use fl ame to check for leaks. A fi re or explosion
may result.
4. When storing or transporting the torch, ensure the POL
is protected from damage and dirt entry.

Lighting Instructions
■ Fire and explosion hazard.
■ Can cause property damage, severe injury
or death.
■ To avoid dangerous accumulation of fuel gas,
ensure the torch's manual valve is closed
before opening the main fuel supply valve.
DO NOT PLACE YOUR HAND OR ANY PART OF
YOUR BODY IN THE PATH OF THE BURNER WHILE
LIGHTING OR OPERATING THE TORCH. DO NOT
USE MATCHES OR A CIGARETTE LIGHTER TO
IGNITE THE TORCH.
1. Slowly open the gas container valve to prevent lock-
up of the excess fl ow valve within the POL fi tting.
a. If opened quickly, the excess fl ow device within
the POL fi tting will close, preventing gas fl ow.
b. If this occurs, close the container valve, wait
about one minute to allow the fl ow device to reset
itself. Then open the valve SLOWLY.
2. Industrial 250 (Model 156) and Industrial 365N
(Model 164) Torches:
• Ensure the manual shut off valve on the torch is
fully closed.
• Fully depress the button on the pilot safety control
valve while applying fl ame to the pilot orifi ce.
• Keep the button depressed for about 15-30
seconds to allow the thermocouple to warm up.
• Release the button.
• Once the pilot stays, slowly open the manual valve
downstream of the safety control to feed main gas
to the burner.
• Open the manual valve to the desired setting.
Bertha 500 (Model 166) torch:
• Use a spark lighter or small handheld torch to light
the torch.
• Apply a spark or fl ame at the torch outlet and open
the manual valve on the torch about 1/8 turn or
until gas is heard.
• Light the gas.
• Once gas is lit, open the manual valve on the torch
to desired setting.
Shut-Down Instructions
1. Close the valve located on the propane container.
2. Allow the torch to burn off any gas remaining in the
gas supply line.
3. Close the torch's manual valve.
