Bertha and Industrial Torches
Cleaning Instructions
WARNING
■ This torch contains components used in the
gas management system.
■ Such components may become inoperative or
fail due to dust, dirt, and aging.
■ Periodic cleaning, inspection, as well as main-
tenance are essential to avoid serious injury or
property damage.
1. Before cleaning, close all gas supply valves and
disconnect the gas supply.
2. Periodically, give the torch a general cleaning using
pressurized air, a soft brush, or a dry rag.
WARNING
■ Do not use a pressure washer, water, or liquid
cleaning solutions on torch components.
■ Use of a pressure washer, water, or liquid
cleaning solution on the components can
cause severe personal injury or property dam-
age due to corrosion.
■ Corrosion can create gas leaks, resulting in
fi res or explosion.
■ Clean the torch with pressurized air, a soft dry
brush, or dry cloth.

Maintenance Instructions
■ The area surrounding the torch shall be kept clear
and free from combustible materials, gasoline, and
other fl ammable vapors and liquids.
■ Review labels at the time of maintenance for leg-
ibility. Make sure none are cut, torn, or otherwise
damaged. Any damaged labels must be replaced
immediately by contacting L.B. White. Labels are
available at no cost.
■ If applicable, check the regulator's vent to ensure it
is not blocked by plaster, dirt, insects, etc.
■ Inspect the gas hose for nicks, cuts, or corroded
fi ttings. Replace the complete gas hose assembly if
defects are found.
■ Leak check the torch assembly before use, and after
service or repair.
■ Check the POL fi tting to ensure the o-ring is not
cracked or missing. (O ring part number is 09170)
■ Verify the POL fi tting is in good condition without
nicks on its surface area. Also ensure the POL nut
is not rounded by use of improper tools used in the
tightening process. If the POL assembly is dam-
aged, replace it.
Service Instructions
■ Close the fuel supply valves to the torch and allow
the torch to cool before servicing.
■ Do not push instruments into the burner orifi ce hole.
Doing so may enlarge or distort the hole creating
improper combustion, or burner fl ame blow out.
-- Use only a soft brush, dry rag, or pressurized air
to clean the burner orifi ce.
■ Do not use pliers to loosen or tighten torch com-
ponents. Doing so may round off the component
creating service problems. Use the appropriate
wrench.
■ Leak check all gas connections after performing
service work. Use approved leak detectors.
