Use of cable lugs:
• Connect the red cable to the plus pole on the battery and the black cable to the minus pole.
The JMP 800 battery charger can then be connected via the adapter for charging. The cable
to the adapter then remains permanently on the battery.
• It is recommended that the dummy connector be fitted if the battery is not being charged to
avoid any contact between the sleeve and vehicle chassis.
How is the battery charged?
Battery charging occurs in four phases.
1) The first part of the charging procedure is realised with a constant current of 0.8 A until the
voltage on the battery reaches 7,2 V. The battery is then charged to about 85% of its full
capacity. The yellow LED illuminates during this phase.
2) The charging current drops slowly as soon as the voltage of 7,2 V is achieved, with the volt-
age being maintained at 7,2 V. The yellow LED also illuminates during this phase. Charging is
terminated as soon as the charging current has dropped to 0.25A and the green LED illuminates.
The battery is now fully charged.
3) The battery voltage is monitored in phase three. The green LED illuminates during this. This
status can endure for a very long time, depending on the quality and age of the battery. This
period of time is reduced accordingly if, for example, electronic components are active in the
vehicle (a clock or alarm system).
4) The floating charging mode commences operation if the voltage drops below 6,35 V. The
battery is charged up to 7,2 V in this fourth phase. The yellow LED illuminates during this. The
third phase (voltage monitoring) is activated once again as soon as the battery is fully charged.
This sequence continues for as long as the charger is connected to the battery. The battery
charger can be continuously connected for months at a time.
Maintenance
Clean the battery charger with a clean cloth. Do not use flowing water or cleaning agents containing
solvents! The battery charger should only be repaired by an authorised workshop. This also applies
to replacement of the battery cables.
