In case of pumping condensable vapours:
Use an open gas ballast.
When restarting after a shut-down for more than one hour, allow the vacuum pump to heat up,
with closed suction and open gas ballast before use. It is recommended to follow this advice for
about 30 minutes.
After use, run the vacuum pump with closed suction and open gas ballast. It is recommended to
follow this advice for about 30 minutes.
The purpose of this procedure is to limit the formation of condensate inside the pump.
The maximum permissible water vapour pressure (Pwo) and pumping capacity of the water vapour (Cwo)
values given in the table in § 1.3 are only valid if the gas ballast is open and the pump has reached its
stabilized operating temperature at an ambient temperature of 20°C.
In case of frequent starts:
The number of starts per hour must not exceed:
10 for models with motor power less than or equal to 2.2kW.
6 for models with motor power greater than 2.2kW.
If possible, leave the gas ballast open when the pump is switched off.
In case of a cyclic process (pumping time less than 2 minutes):
The pump must not be stopped between cycles but must be isolated from the chamber by a valve to allow
it to run in full vacuum. The pump's power consumption is very low when operating in full vacuum.
3.3.

Usual and preventive maintenance

The period between overhauls depends on the process for which the pump is used and the assurance of
correct operation.
Do not disassemble the pump more than necessary during repair, service or maintenance operations.
Take every possible precaution to protect the environment. In particular, all waste fluids
should be recovered and recycled. Never dispose of these fluids directly into the
environment.
Recycle used oils, greases and filters through an organization approved by the country where
the equipment is used.
When carrying out maintenance and repair work, it is essential to avoid the risks associated
with moving or live parts.
Before performing any service or maintenance operation on the pump:
The pump must be switched off and electrically locked.
Wait until the oil temperature has cooled down to ambient temperature.
Isolate the pump from the application.
Depending on the application, parts and oil of the pump may have been contaminated by the
substances sucked in. Apply appropriate safety regulations and use suitable personal
protective equipment.
These operations must be carried out by qualified and accredited personnel.

Failure to comply with the manufacturer's recommendations and failure to use original parts
during maintenance operations will result in the cancellation of the warranty and/or release
the Mil's company from any liability.
Rubber O ring or rubber flat seals dismantled must be replaced.
3.3.1.

Measures of precaution for oxygen vacuum pumps

Full caution must be taken to avoid any contact between oxygen and parts with grease (not
compatible with oxygen).
During maintenance operations, all tools, replacement or spare parts, working area and
hands must be degreased. Accessories, you may add, must be compatible with oxygen.
Oil and greases must be compatible with oxygen.
3.3.2.

Oil change

Check the oil level regularly. Perform the first oil change after the first 500 hours of operation. At the same
time change the oil filter.
Then every: 3 000 hours or 24 months for synthetic MIL'S oil (MV99S).
Some pumping applications pollute the oil more than others. Only experience enables one to
determine the frequency of oil changes and the choice of oil quality to use. The frequencies
indicated below are usual encountered values.
Recommended oil: special vacuum pump MV99S
General characteristics: anticorrosive, antioxidant, extreme pressure, antifoam, flash point: 250°C.
The use of an oil, other than that recommended by MIL'S, engages your responsibility and/or
responsibility of your supplier. The use of unsuitable or immiscible oil can destroy the pump.
The MIL'S oil safety data sheet is available on request: www.mils.fr
For the oxygen version vacuum pumps:
It is imperative to use only compatible oil with oxygen in order to avoid any risk of
spontaneous combustion or explosion.
Oil to be used is oil FOMBLIN (can of 1kg/0.5 liter – reference 361126)
During draining, oil FOMBLIN being chemically very stable, can be filtered then can be re-used with a
possible additional filling until the correct level is reached.
3.3.3.

Oil filter

Always change the oil filter cartridge at the bottom of the housing and the O-ring on the underside of the
filling plug every time you change oil.
The oil filter must be tightened by hand and without tools to prevent damage.
