INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
Your doctor or other healthcare professional has
prescribed the OXYMIZER oxygen-conserving device
for you. The OXYMIZER helps conserve oxygen by
means of a reservoir system, which allows for the
accumulation of oxygen during the exhalation and
pause phases of a person's breathing pattern. Used
properly, this device will provide you with the oxygen
that you need, along with some additional benefits.
It is important that you follow your physician's
instructions carefully concerning the use of the
OXYMIZER:
•
The OXYMIZER is designed to replace your
standard nasal cannula and is designed for use with
continuous flow oxygen systems.
•
Use of the OXYMIZER may allow you to reduce the
flow of oxygen delivered by your oxygen system
(i.e., cylinder, oxygen concentrator and standard
nasal cannula) without reducing the amount of
oxygen delivered into your body. The reduction in
continuous oxygen flow can be as much as 75%
less than when using a standard nasal cannula; this
can vary based on the liter flow and the users
breathing pattern.
•
If you use the OXYMIZER with a portable oxygen
system (i.e. cylinder), the reduction in flow will
generally allow the system to last longer. This may
allow you to be away from your main oxygen source
for a longer period of time and/or may enable the
use of a smaller, lighter weight portable system.
IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU FOLLOW
YOUR PHYSICIAN'S INSTRUCTIONS
CAREFULLY CONCERNING:
•
The details of your oxygen prescription, including
when and how long to use per day.
•
The oxygen liter flow rate to use.
NOTE: The flow rate indicated for use with the
OXYMIZER device may be one quarter to one half
of the oxygen liter flow prescribed for use with a
standard nasal cannula.
•
When to replace your OXYMIZER device.

HOW TO PUT ON THE OXYMIZER
PENDANT
1. Uncoil the tubing completely.
Hold the device so that the front
of the Pendant is facing away
from you.
NOTE: The front of the Pendant
is designated with slots.
2. Position the nasal prongs so
that they fit comfortably into
your nostrils. The prongs should
extend well into and point
toward the back of your nose.
3. Position the nasal prongs
and extend the tubing across
your cheekbones.
4. Place the tubing around
your ears and adjust each side
so that you have a snug,
comfortable fit. Do not allow the
tubing to go completely around
your neck. This may create a
choking hazard.
5. Attach the tubing clip to join
both sides of the cannula
tubing. Slide the clip upward
beneath your chin to hold the
tubing in place (you may
choose not to use the clip
simply by removing it). Do not
over-tighten to avoid injury.
6. The Pendant portion should
rest against your chest below
your throat. You may want to
tuck it under your shirt or blouse.
7. Connect the female connector to your oxygen
source.
8. Turn on the oxygen and set the flow rate as
prescribed by your doctor or health care
professional.
NOTE: The flow rate prescribed for use with this
device may be one quarter to one half that
prescribed with a non- oxygen-conserving cannula.
WARNING: This device is intended for single
patient use only and can be used multiple times
by the same patient. Sharing this device with
other users may increase your risk of respiratory
infections or other communicable diseases.
CAUTION: The use of nasal oxygen delivery
devices, such as nasal cannulas may increase
the risk of skin irritation and/or breakdown on
the ears, face and opening of the nares.¹
