Application
With the temperature probe for determining the U-value, in combination with a compatible
testo measuring instrument and a further temperature probe, the thermal conductivity
coefficient can be determined. The U-value is an important indicator for evaluating the
thermal characteristics of ready-to-use materials and building components.
Equipment required for determining U-value:
· For recording the measurement values: Measuring instrument testo 635-2
(recommended) or testo 635-1
· For measuring wall surface temperature Tw and indoor air temperature Ti: Temperature
probe for determining U-value 0614 1635
· For measuring outdoor air temperature: Radio probe 0613 1001 / 0613 1002
(recommended) or air probe 0602 1793.
· When using radio probes: Radio module 0554 0188 / 0554 0190
1) When using radio probes / module, observe approval for individual countries.
Carrying out U-value determination
In the following passage, the determination of the U-value with manual measurement
value recording is described, this is possible with the instruments testo 635-1 and
testo 635-2. Testo recommends recording the measurement values via a measurement
program (measurement rate 15min, measurement over one night), followed by
measurement data evaluation using PC software. This is possible with the instrument
testo 635-2 and the testo Comfort software. To set up a measurement program, please
read the documentation delivered with the measuring instrument testo 635-2.
The following prerequisites must be fulfilled in order to obtain correct measurement
results:
· Clear temperature difference between inside and outside (ideal: >15°C)
· Constant conditions (e.g. no sunlight radiation warming the outside wall)
· Heat transfer coefficient Alpha correctly set in the instrument (Recommended:
factory setting 7.69; suitable for most standard cases, since almost constant)
· Do not touch the wires/plugs of the temperature probe during the measurement
(Indoor temperature is determined via a sensor in the probe plug)
· Position the instrument during the measurement in a place protected from cold or
heat radiation (do not place on a windowsill, do not hold in your hand), distance
from the wall approx. 30cm, as far as possible at the same height as the three
wires of the temperature probe.
