IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE INSTALLATION
Failure to follow these instructions may cause serious bodily injury and/or property damage.
WARNING: To reduce risk of electrical shock, connect
only to a properly grounded grounding-type receptacle.
Read instructions before installing pump. This pump has
not been investigated for use in swimming pool areas.
1. Before servicing your pump, BE CERTAIN pump power
source is disconnected.
2. The Electric Sponge comes with a grounding conductor
and a 3-prong ground-type plug. For maximum safety, plug
into a 3-prong ground-type receptacle or extension cord.
Extension cord thickness should equal or exceed pump power
cord thickness.
3. Voltage of power supply must match the voltage of the
pump. The R106 operates on 115V AC, 60 Hz only. The
R107 operates on 12V DC only.
4. Pump operation will be seriously hindered or prevented if
the inlet hose is over 15 feet long or if the vertical pumping
distance exceeds 10 feet.
OPERATION INSTRUCTIONS
The Electric Sponge comes complete with pump,
replacement parts, 3/4" x 6' garden hose, and suction
adapter. The R107 has color-coded battery clips for
STEP
1
Add 1/2 teaspoon of light oil to pump inlet
and outlet to aid priming. Attach suction hose
provided to pump inlet. Attach garden hose to
pump outlet. There must be a gasket in place
to ensure that these connections are airtight,
otherwise the pump will not prime.
STEP
2
Place the open end of inlet hose below water
surface. The suction adapter may be used to pump
shallow water or water with large particles. If using
the suction adapter, connect the inlet hose to the
suction adapter. The adapter is designed to accept
the male end of a garden hose. Place the adapter
near to the middle of the water to be pumped.
STEP
3
Examine the inlet and outlet hoses to ensure there
are no blockages or kinks or bends. The inlet hose
should be no longer than 15 feet, and the vertical
pumping distance should not exceed 10 feet.

5. WARNING: The Electric Sponge is NOT a submersible
pump. Keep pump and all power cords away from liquid.
Also, the R107 pump (DC voltage) becomes very hot during
operation. Do not handle the R107 during operation.
6. At times, an overload due to overheating, low voltage,
jammed impeller, etc. may shut the pump off. Unplug the
pump and wait at least ten minutes. The pump will cool and
automatically reset. (115V model)
7. Packed with your pump are the following replacement
parts: impeller, wear plates, O-ring, shaft seal, and two
brush assemblies. See page 2 replacement instructions.
8. The following may cause severe damage to pump and will
void warranty:
• Cutting off plug ground pin or using an adapter fi tting.
• Working on pump while plugged in.
• Pumping fl ammable or corrosive liquids.
• Running pump continuously for more than 1-1/2 hours.
12V DC operation; the R106 has a 3-prong ground-type plug
for 115V AC operation. The Electric Sponge may be used with
or without suction adapter.
STEP
4
With pump in a dry location, connect it to the power
source. R106: Plug into a 3-prong ground-type AC
receptacle. R107: Connect RED battery clip to the
Positive terminal of a 12 volt battery and connect BLACK
clip to Negative terminal, or any grounded object. Keep
battery clip wires away from moving parts or hot spots
of an engine. The setup should look like the drawing
below. If pump fails to deliver water, disconnect from
power source and repeat steps 1–4, or try lifting hose to
aid in priming pump.
