SPE-HVLGSE GLO-STICK
Leak Detection Kit Instructions
For small to medium AC&R systems,
including high-pressure R-410A systems!
IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
Do not look directly into the light. Wear the fluorescence-
enhancing protective glasses provided. Use in low-light
conditions to achieve the best inspection results.
IMPORTANT:
Fluorescent Dyes Required!
To Operate the SPE-HVL-CS violet light LED Leak Detection
Flashlight:
Press the button in the end cap once to turn the lamp on. Press it again to
turn the lamp off.
To Replace Batteries:
Twist the end cap counterclockwise to open. Insert 3 AAA batteries positive
end toward the lamp head. Replace the end cap.

AR-GLO
5E fluorescent dye to be injected into pressurized
®
air-conditioning and refrigeration systems using refrigerant as a
propellant.
IMPORTANT: To get the best results from fluorescent leak detection, there
must be enough refrigerant in the air-conditioning or refrigeration system
for the compressor to circulate the fluorescent dye throughout the system.
However, refrigerant should be added to a known leaking system for the
purpose of leak detection only and repairs should be made promptly.
For Fast and Easy Leak Detection,
Follow the Instructions Below
1.
To purge the system, attach the purge capsule between the service
hose and the bleed valve and connect it to a refrigerant source. Open
the bleed valve slowly to use the system pressure to bleed the hose
from the AC&R system to the valve. Tighten the bleed valve. Remove
and retain the purge capsule and purge fitting.
2.
Install the GLO-STICK capsule between the pressurized hoses, with
the arrow pointing in the direction of the refrigerant flow, and connect
the hose to the low side service port.
3.
With the system operating, slowly open the bleed valve and the
manifold valve to allow the refrigerant (liquid refrigerant works best)

to flow through the GLO-STICK capsule. Flush the fluorescent dye
into the system. Add refrigerant slowly to avoid system damage.
Once the GLO-STICK clears, close the valve closest to the refrigerant
source and allow all hoses to reach low-side pressure.
4.
Remove the entire assembly and discard the empty capsule. Retain the
bleed valve, purge capsule and fitting, and service hose for future use.
5.
Run the system to allow the dye to circulate thoroughly. The dye needs
time to mix with the oil and circulate to all the leak sites. This period of
time will vary greatly depending on the size of the system and the size of
the leak. It could take anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes for small systems
with large leaks, to several days for larger systems with smaller leaks.
Use the flashlight in low-light conditions for best performance.
6.
Scan the system with the flashlight while wearing the fluorescence-
enhancing glasses. You'll easily see the precise location of every leak
by its bright fluorescent glow.
7.
After the leaks are repaired, clean the remaining dye from the leak sites
with Spectroline
8.
Reinspect with the SPE-HVL-CS flashlight to make sure all dye residue
has been removed. Residual dye could give a false leak indication.
9.
Run the system for another 5 to 10 minutes and reinspect with the
flashlight. No glow means that all leaks have been repaired.
Wipe all dye spills immediately to prevent damage to
paints and finishes. Dye may stain hands and clothing.
• Alternative method without adding refrigerant: Connect the
capsule between the system's high-side and low-side service
ports. Use a bleed valve to meter the refrigerant slowly through
the capsule.
• To verify that the AC&R system is properly treated with
AR-GLO 5E dye: Locate the system sight glass or release a
minute amount of refrigerant onto a dark cloth and check for a
bright glow with the SPE-HVL-CS flashlight.
