Operation
5.1
Switching On and Off
Switch on and off using the central main switch on
front of unit (see fig. 1, item 10) FSA 740.
i
Before switching off the device, shut down the PC
using the Windows operating system. Leave the
PC switched off for at least 60 seconds before
switching on again.
i
When operating FSA 740, malfunctions can occur
if the PC or other components (e.g. connection
cables) being used were not supplied by Bosch.

Notes on measurement
DANGER – risk of electric shock for
measurements on the motor vehicle unless
a B+/B– battery cable is connected!
Measurements without a B+/B– battery
cable connected to the vehicle ground or to
the battery negative terminal on the battery
can cause injuries, heart failure or death
from electrocution.
¶
Connect FSA 740 via battery B– cable
to vehicle ground or battery negative
terminal for all measurements.
DANGER – Risk of electric shock from
excessively high measurement voltage!
The measurement of voltages in excess of
60 VDC/30 VAC/42 VACpeak using CH1 /
CH2 multi-measurement cables will result in
injury, heart failure or fatal electric shocks.
¶
Never use CH1/CH2 multi measurement
cable to measure mains or similar
voltages.
!
Measurements with FSA 740 are allowed only in a
dry environment.
!
The FSA 740 is not to be used for measuring
isolation from the supply on electric and hybrid
vehicles. Measurements on high-voltage capacitor
ignitions are not allowed as voltage values greater
than 300 Volt may occur in this type of ignition.
!
Measurements on the passenger car piezo common
rail injector are only permitted with special adapter
cables (optional accessories).
!
The test prods enclosed in accessory
1 687 010 153 can only be used for measurements
of less than 30 Volts.

Basic approach to measurements on the vehicle:
1. Switch off the ignition.
2. Connect FSA 740 via battery B– cable to vehicle
ground or battery negative terminal.
3. Connect the required measurement cables to the
vehicle.
!
During a measurement, do not hold the
measurement cables by hand.
4. Switch on ignition.
5. Perform the measurements.
6. Switch off the ignition after measuring.
7. Disconnect the measurement cables from the
vehicle.
8. Disconnect the battery B– cable.
"
Measurement complete.
