Introduction
Volvo Pentas D4/D6-SOLAS engine is designed
to comply with the requirements applicable to the
directive 2014/90/EU.
In order to fulfill the demands of the directive, the
following alterations and additions have been made to
the SOLAS-D4/D6:
1. Alteration: Starter motor draining sealed.
Function: The engine can run even in water up to
the center of the crankshaft.
2. Alteration: A unique sea water pump.
Function: Increased space between sea water
pump housing and impeller, can withstand dry
running for an extended period of time without
damaging the impeller.
3. Alteration: Alternator moved to a higher position.
Function: The engine can run even in water up to
the center of the crankshaft.
4. Alteration: Special impeller kit
Function: Unique material in impeller, can
withstand dry running for an extended period of
time without damaging the impeller
5. Addition: A capsizing relay is mounted in the boat
and is connected to the engine's electrical system.
Function: The engine stops automatically if the
boat capsizes.
6. Addition: An oil trap has been added between
the CCV seperator and air filter.
Function: The oil trap prevents oil leakage from
the engine if the boat capsizes.
7. Addition: A valve is mounted between the engine
and the crankcase ventilation filter.
Function: The valve prevents oil leakage from the
engine if the boat capsizes.
