Troubleshooting
SYMPTOM
The sump is empty and the
switch is in the down position,
but the pump won't shut off.
Pump won't run.
Motor hums but pump
won't run.
Pump runs but pumps very
little or no water.
Pump cycles too frequently.

PROBABLE CAUSE(S)
Defective Float Switch.
Defective Control Panel.
Float control Switch is hung
up and can't swing through it's
entire arc.
Loose electrical connection.
Defective battery or battery is
not charged enough.
Defective battery or battery is
not charged enough.
The check valve between the
primary pump discharge and
the backup pump is not
installed properly or not
functioning correctly.
The pump discharge pipe is
obstructed.
The discharge pipe length
(height) is too long for pump
capacity.
The battery is not charged
properly or is defective.
The positive and negative
wires are reversed on battery.
Tether length is too short on
the automatic float switch.
The check valve between the
primary pump discharge and
the backup pump is not
installed properly or not
functioning correctly.
Excessive water is coming into
the sump pit.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Disconnect the float switch from the control panel.
If the pump stops the float switch needs to be replaced.
Check that the automatic switch is free to swing up
and down.
Check all of the electrical connections.
Check for a low or defective battery.
Check for a low or defective battery.
Install or repair as required.
Check for an obstruction in discharge pipe.
Lower the discharge pipe until the pump can operate adequately.
Check for a low or defective battery.
Reverse the positive (+) and negative (-) wires.
The correct tether length is 2".
Install or repair as required.
