4.1 General
4.1.1 Description
With the ACE (Ammann Compaction Expert) system, it is possi-
ble to carry out wide-area compaction checks.
By means of integrated sensors, the acceleration of the base
plate and the respective position of the unbalances with respect
to each other are transferred to the control system in the control
arm, where the factors for compaction are calculated and the
control signals generated for unbalance and frequency adjust-
ment.
As a result, the compact energy is automatically adjusted to the
given soil stiffness.
The ACE system offers four operating modes with which all com-
paction processes can be controlled.
Mode selection can take place easily during operation.
4.1.2 Operation
The ACE system is particularly suitable for loose surfaces with a
small amount of fines.
The degree of compaction and quality depend on the existing soil
conditions. If the maximum degree of compaction is not indicated
on the display despite sufficient compaction, the soil and its suit-
ability for compaction must be checked and suitable compaction
improvement measures initiated if necessary.
In order to prevent possible inaccuracies due to pore over pres-
sure, it must be ensured during measurement that the water con-
tent of the tested soil is within the optimal range.
4.2 Operating states
4.2.1 Hydraulic Stop
When the emergency stop button is pressed, operation of the
machine is stopped and «STOP» appears in the display.
The engine speed can be maintained independent of this state.
This enables operation to immediately be resumed in the mode
selected prior to pressing the emergency stop button after re-
leasing the emergency stop button.
