GUIDE BAR MAINTENANCE
When the guide bar shows signs of wear,
reverse it on the saw to distribute the wear
for maximum guide-bar life. The guide bar
should be cleaned every day of use and
checked for wear and damage. Feathering
or burring of the guide-bar rails is a normal
process of guide-bar wear. Such faults should
be smoothed with a file as soon as they occur.
A guide bar with any of the following faults
should be replaced.
Wear inside the guide-bar rails which
permits the chain to lay over sideways.
Bent guide bar.
Cracked or broken rails.
Spread rails.
REVERSING THE GUIDE BAR
1. Remove the guide bar and saw chain
from the chainsaw, following the section:
"REPLACING THE GUIDE BAR AND
SAW CHAIN".
2. Remove the saw chain from the guide bar
and turn the guide bar over (Fig. 24). The
bottom of the guide bar will be on the top.
3. Replace the saw chain on the guide bar.
4. Reassemble the guide bar and chain on
WORM GEAR LUBRICATION (FIG. 25)
Your SKILSAW tool has been properly lubricated
and is ready to use. It is recommended that the
gears be re-lubricated only with SKILSAW Worm-
Drive Oil No. 80111 (8 oz. tube) when required.
Remove the plug from power source and place
the saw upright with the foot on a horizontal
surface and set the saw at 0°. Use a wrench
to loosen and remove the worm-drive oil plug.
The worm-drive oil level should reach the top
of the opening.
When adding worm-drive oil, fill until the oil
starts to run out of oil hole on the housing and
then replace the worm-drive oil plug (Fig. 25).
NOTICE: If the worm-drive oil is dirty or thick,
replace the worm-drive oil plug and run the saw
for one minute to warm up the worm-drive oil.
(FIG. 23)
(FIG. 24)
In addition, the guide bar has a sprocket at its
tip. The sprocket must be lubricated weekly
with a grease syringe to extend the guide-bar
life. Use a grease syringe to lubricate weekly
with chain oil by means of the lubricating hole
(Fig. 23). Turn the guide bar and check that
the lubrication holes and chain groove are
free from impurities.

the chainsaw and adjust the chain tension,
following the section: "REPLACING THE
GUIDE BAR AND SAW CHAIN" and
"ADJUSTING THE SAW CHAIN TENSION".

Then remove oil plug and turn saw upside down
to remove all of the oil. Add fresh SKILSAW
lubricant (No. 80111). With a new saw, change
the oil after the first ten hours of use.
