HOW TO USE YOUR NEW PROTO® TORQUE WRENCH
Your new Proto
Torque Wrench is a precision instrument designed to accurately measure torque.
®
It should never be used to break loose stubborn fasteners.
1. To adjust torque, firmly grasp the torque wrench above the grip with one hand.
2. With the other hand, slide the lock ring on the grip to the rear with thumb and forefinger to
disengage the grip locking mechanism (see Figure 1, on page 4).
3. Set the amount of torque required by turning the grip to read the exact amount on the case
graduations (see Figures 2 and 3, on page 4.)
4. Install the proper socket or attachment on the square drive and attach it to the object being
torqued.
5. Orient socket or attachment as needed to ensure that it is secure.
6. Apply a smooth steady pull to the handle of the wrench.
7. When the torque applied equals the torque setting of the wrench, the wrench will automatically
release. The release is a distinct and unmistakable impulse and click which may be heard or
felt. When pressure is removed from the handle, the wrench will automatically reset itself.
