The following variables are defined as:
A = Length of the torque wrench when set at center or grip to center of square drive;
B = Length of adapter (inches);
D = Desire torque applied to fastener; and
S1 = Setting torque for wrench.
Here is a typical problem:
You have an adapter that adds 10.0 inches to a torque wrench. You are using a J6014C Proto
Torque Wrench. What should be the setting be to obtain 320 ft-lb of torque at the end of the
adapter?
A=22.57
B=10.0
D=320 ft-lb
S1=unknown
It is important to understand the following when using adapters or extensions on torque wrenches.

Actual applied torque of a micrometer torque wrench can be verified using available Proto
testing equipment.

Load should be applied at the center of the hand grip.
>
Length of the adapter should be measured from the center of the adapter opening to the center
of the square drive opening to the center of the square drive opening. Measure only the distance
that is parallel to the torque wrench.
