VARIA UNI LUX
Field of application
The VARIA LUX operator is to be used exclusively for opening and closing
bottom-hung, top-hung outward-opening, up-and-over and skylight
windows.
Use of the operator for other applications must be authorized by GIESSE
and is subject to technical testing of the application.
1
Description of the product
Electric operator with chain and internal magazine.
Ideal for top-hung outward opening and skylight windows with
height of at least 50 cm - 230 Volt A.C. functioning - Selectable
travel.
VARIA LUX is fitted with a limit micro-switch, a removable terminal board
and a warning light for the window closed position (ref.9-fig.1).
It is provided with accessories for fitting the operator to the window.
The chain is treated against oxidation with Dacromet coating for
protection in the harshest conditions.

Instruction manual
Check that all the components are present and not damaged.
Installation
● The operator must be installed by specialised technical
2
personnel.
● The operator must be installed when the window is closed.
● Disconnect the electrical power supply during installation.
● Check that the hinges and hardware used allow the operator to open
fully. If not, the hardware may be damaged by the drive or thrust force of
the operator.
a. With a pencil, identify and mark the midline of the window.
Position the actuator at the distance indicated in fig.3 ref.B.
attention: the actuator must be positioned parallel to the window.
b. Drill four holes corresponding to the four actuator fixing plates holes
(ref.Cfig.3), using a drill and drill bits with a suitable diameter.
c. If it is necessary, proceed to the chain travel adjusting (see the relevant
notes).
d. Fix the actuator using suitable screws (rif.C-fig.3).
Adjusting the stroke using a cam
Note: Adjust the travel chain before fixing the actuator.
The actuator is supplied with the maximum value of chain travel: 320
mm.
It is possible to reduce the actuator chain travel as follows:
Connect the operator to the mains (see paragraph 3) or use the actuator
test cable (cod. 04793000) and then:
1. Open the door (ref.8-fig.2).
2. Power up the actuator, to extract the chain by a length A equal to the
travel C required, as indicated in Tab. B.
Example: if the entire chain remains inside, that is A=0, the travel is 90
mm.
3. Fit the supplied travel setting fitting (ref.7-fig.2).
4. Close the door.
e. Close the window, applying a light pressure to guarantee that the
gaskets are sealed. Then screw down the chain front pin (ref.4-fig.3)
complete with nut and washer (ref.3-fig.3). Adjust the position of the
chain front pin at the window coupling.
f. Fix the parts with the fixing spring (ref.5-fig.3).
Ensure that the actuator reaches the limit switch positions correctly
without being obstructed.
Correct closing of the frame and stopping of the motor are signaled by
lighting up of the red indicator (9).
NB. The actuator is supplied in the limit switch closed position.
WARNING! It's important to block the front pin in position using the nut
and its washer (ref.3-fig.3).

If the value calculated is superior, it will be necessary to

Check the cross-section of the power supply cable: it must have
adequate dimensions for the absorption of the operator.

The electrical connections as indicated in draw.8.
The terminals are not to be used for connecting flexible cables with
washers unless the wire ends are fitted with a device for use with screw
terminals.
The electrical system must comply with current standards.
Nb: To ensure the system is safe, use a spring return push-button (dead
man) or a power supply which is timed for the time required for
movement.
The actuating button must be marked to indicate its on/off function.

At least every 12 months, test the product to ensure the system is
functioning correctly; for special systems, this should be done at least
every 6 months.

At regular intervals (every year), check that the hinges are in good
condition, check that the operator is secure on the window and
check the general state of the window. For perfect functioning,
