1. Description
The WELLER MT 1500 soldering station is distinguished by the fact that the required
soldering temperature is reached at the needle-sized micro soldering tip extremely
quickly and with great accuracy. The tip itself is made of tough, long-life steel. The
heating element and the temperature sensor together constitute a unit and are located
directly in the soldering tip. When touched, a metal ring in the handle of the bit switches
on the heater and heats up the soldering tip temperature extremely quickly (approx. 1
sec., MT202!) to the set temperature.
Temperature is regulated on an analog basis: the desired temperature is set using a
rotary potentiometer/switch within the range 200 ˚C - 450 ˚C and is infinitely variable.
The actual temperature and set temperature are displayed digitally. By pulling on the
rotary potentiometer, the SET/ACTUAL change-over switch is moved to the set value
display. The red LED marked "Set Mode" indicates the switch position "SET". The set
value can be changed on the rotary potentiometer in this switch position. If the rotary
potentiometer switch is pressed down, the actual value is displayed.
The red LED marked "Heater" is used as a visual setting control and lights up when the
heater is activated. A wide range of soldering tips in the series MT 200 (10W), MT 300
(30W), MT 600 (60W) and MT 1200 (120W) is available for carrying out various
soldering functions.
The metal casing is coated with anti-static paint. The desired equipotential bonding can
be achieved via a pawl socket at the rear of the unit. The soldering/de-soldering station
thus fulfils all EC institution safety requirements.
Types of operation
The equipment has three types of operation: touch mode marked "TOUCH", continuous
operating mode marked "CONTINUOUS" and idle mode marked "IDLE". The desired
type of operation is set using the toggle switch.
1. Touch mode
Touch mode is primarily intended for SMD [surface-mounted device] technology; fine
soldering tips should therefore be used. The heater and the actual value display are
activated by touching the conductive metal ring.
2. Continuous operating mode
In continuous operating mode the temperature, set using the rotary potentiometer, is
maintained for as long as the equipment is switched on. Suitable for working with a
relatively high heat requirement.

3. Idle mode
GB
In idle mode the equipment, when switched on, remains at a fixed, low temperature
level. When the metal ring is touched, the soldering tip heats up to the set temperature.
After the metal ring is released (50 sec.), the temperature is automatically lowered
again to the stand-by temperature. This type of operation helps to ensure a longer
service life for the soldering tip.
Technical data:
Mains voltage
: 230V AC
Soldering bit voltage
: 6V AC, 12V AC, 24V AC depending on the choice of tip
Capacity
: 130 watts
Fuse
: T630mA in the mains connection element
Regulation
: Infinitely variable temperature control from 200 ˚C - 450 ˚C
2. Commissioning
Insert the soldering tip carefully into the handle. Make sure that the soldering tip is
firmly seated, as the metal case and the centre contact pin produce the electrical contacts
of the heating element.
Soak the cleaning sponge with water. Lay the soldering bit in the safety rest. Check
whether the mains voltage is consistent with the details on the type plate. If the mains
voltage is correct, connect the control unit to the mains and switch on the unit at the
mains switch (at the rear of the unit).
The green LED marked "Power" (2) will light up and act as a mains control light. Place
the toggle switch (3) for the type of operation in the "Continuous" position. The red
LED marked "Heater" (4) indicates that the soldering tip is heating up. By pulling on the
rotary potentiometer, move the SET/ACTUAL change-over switch (5) to the SET position.
The red LED (6) marked "Set Mode" will light up. The temperature of the soldering tip
can be set precisely on the potentiometer (5) within the range 200 ˚C - 450 ˚C.
Following this, press the rotary potentiometer switch, whereupon the red LED (6) marked
"Set Mode" will go out and the actual temperature of the soldering tip will be indicated
on the display (7).
Before soldering, cover the hot soldering tip with solder. Following this, select the type
of operation (Touch, Continuous, Idle) suited to the soldering task. The heater is activated
by touching the touch-sensitive metal ring on the soldering bit handle. During operation,
the metal ring and the metal handle must be touched together.
