PerfectCharge W2000
Rated capacity: The capacity of a rechargeable battery (mAh)
stated by the manufacturer. The higher the rated capacity of a
battery, the longer the consumer can be operated (e.g. two hours
for a Discman with 600 mAh batteries; five hours with 1500 mAh
batteries).
Charge efficiency: The ratio of energy taken out to the energy put
in (e.g. lead battery: approx. 0.85).
Non-maintenance-free battery: A battery (e.g. a lead starter
battery), whose cells have to be topped up with distilled water at
regular intervals. This term is frequently used for non-sealed
batteries.
Acid density: The acid density in kg/l shows the charging condition
of a battery. A battery syringe is required for measuring this.
The following characteristic figures apply:
– Acid density 1.28 kg/l: battery fully charged
– Acid density 1.20 kg/l: battery is half charged
– Acid density 1.10 kg/l: battery discharged
Separator: A component which physically separates and
electrically isolates electrodes of opposite polarity. In certain cases,
the separator can also be used to absorb excess electrolyte
(microglass fibre fleece, AGM). Usually the separator is made of:
– Porous PP/PE film for acid electrolytes
– PP/PE fleece for alkali systems
Starter battery: A rechargeable battery that is specially designed
for starting combustion engines.
Sulphate build-up: Formation of lead sulphate on the electrodes
of a lead acid battery due to recrystallisation during longer times of
disuse in discharged condition.
Total discharge: The condition where a cell with a low current
strength is completely discharged, so that the voltage falls below
the final discharging voltage.
