OPERATING INSTRUCTION TO TELEPHON INTERFACE APS-18.3
A) General information
The module APS-18.3 is integrated into a loudspeaker system and connected with a switchboard like a phone. Five tasks are possible:
1) playback of announcements from phone via loudspeakers (without function selection)
2) playback of announcements from phone via loudspeakers (with function selection)
3) monitoring of the program of the loudspeaker system by phone
4) transfer of an information at a specific event to a determined telephone number
5) playback of cached announcements via loudspeakers (without or with function selection)
B) Adjustment on the busy tone
If the caller hangs up, the APS-18.3 must be able to detect the interrupted telephone line. The frequency of this signal must be identified
and adjusted. For that, the following five steps are necessary:
1) Switch on the loudspeaker system.
2) Press shortly the „Adjustment button" in the hole at the left side of the „Bass control" (the adjustment is activated now).
3) Do a call as described in the chapters C (but do not speak!)
4) Hang up the calling telephone (the frequency of the detected signal will be memorized).
5) Do a new call as a check - no signal should be audible when hanging up.
C) Adjustment of the volume for listening
Depending on the programming, in the functions 1 and 2 a gong signal may be audible before the announcements. This signal is transmitted
to the caller via the side tone path. It is necessary, because the caller must wait until to the end of the signal before speaking. To prevent an
overmodulation of the module, the two controls for volume must be adjusted in a certain ratio.
Both controls in the center: This is the starting position. If the control for talking is e.g. 20° below the center position, the maximum of the
control for listening is 20° above the middle position. If the control for talking is e.g. 10° above the center position, the maximum for the control
for listening is 10° below the center position.
D) Function 1 (announcement via loudspeakers without function selection)
1) Dial the designated phone number for the APS-18.3 (for the number ask the electrician); the connection between the caller and the
APS-18.3 will be established.
2) If the loudspeaker system is busy, the call will not be accepted - the call signal is permanently audible.
3) If the loudspeaker system is not occupied, the APS-18.3 reports with a 1 kHz-tone of 2 seconds length that the announcement can be
started. If there is an attention signal (gong) before the announcement, wait for the end.
4) The connection between caller and APS-18.3 will be interrupted if the caller hangs up, the maximum announcement duration program-
med at the APS-18.3 is over or if a higher priority becomes active in the loudspeaker system. If the interruption is made by the system,
the busy tone is audible.
E) Function 2 (announcement via loudspeakers with function selection)
1) Dial the designated phone number for the APS-18.3 (for the number ask the electrician); the connection between caller and APS-18.3
will be established.
2) If the connection is ready, the APS-18.3 reports with a 1 kHz-tone of 2 seconds length.
3) During 5 seconds a function selection by using one of the buttons 0 to 9, * or # can be made. These functions are individual (as shown in
the documentation of the loudspeaker system) and can be used for example for activation of loudspeaker zones. The APS-18.3 con-
firms a selection immediately with a 1 kHz-tone of 2 seconds length.
4) If no selection has been set, the APS-18.3 sends a 400 Hz-tone from 2 seconds length and the selection of the function occurs auto-
matically.
5) If the loudspeaker system is busy, a delay of a maximum of 10 seconds follows, accompanied from a 400 Hz-tone.
6) If the loudspeaker system is free, talking is possible. If there is an attention signal (gong) before the announcement, wait for the end.
7) The connection between caller and APS-18.3 will be interrupted if the caller hangs up, the maximum announcement duration pro-
grammed at the APS-18.3 is over or if a higher priority becomes active in the loudspeaker system. If the interruption is made by the
system, the busy tone is audible.
