1. Remove plastic fascia stabilizer – using a flat head screwdriver, remove (2) plastic push rivets holding plastic stabilizer in place. Note: There are two plastic tabs
holding this piece into place. They can be removed by pinching them or rotating the whole stabilizer.
2. Lower muffler – Using the exhaust removal pliers, lower muffler by removing the (4) rearmost rubber hangers. Note: A spray a lubricant on rubber hangers makes
them slide off metal pins more easily. NOTE: Be careful that exhaust is supported before removing rubber hangers.
3. Remove rear tow hook – remove (6) M12 bolts using an 18mm socket and extension. There are (3) bolts on the lower surface of the hook and (3) bolts on the side. Set
bolts aside for reinstallation later. Note: There is a black plastic module located near the side bolts. To move this for easier access, simply pull the module toward the
passenger side of the vehicle, it will come off of the clip.
4. Widen the hole – on the driver side of the vehicle there is a hole located between middle and forward most holes. Using a die grinder, widen the hole enough so that
one of the blocks fits into the frame.
5. Install blocks and carriage bolts – using the provided fish wire (part no. 5481), push the (2) carriage bolts into the hole widened previously, insert the (2) blocks into
the holes, and pull the fish wire out, ensuring the bolts are seated into the blocks. See figure 2 for an illustration.
6. Raise hitch into position – raise the hitch over the tailpipe(s) and align holes in the hitch bracket with existing weldnuts in frame rail.
7. Install fasteners - Install (4) M12 bolts and (2) hex nuts and (2) conical toothed washers as shown in figure 1.
8. Tighten all M12 CL10.9 fasteners with torque wrench to 105Lb.-Ft. (142N*M). Tighten all hex nuts to 75Lb.-Ft. (149N*W).
Proper torque is needed to keep the hitch secure to the vehicle when towing.
9. Replace the module you removed in step 3
10.Raise muffler – raise muffler back into position and reattach rubber hangers, (2) per side.
Note: check hitch frequently, making sure all fasteners and ball are properly tightened. If hitch is removed, plug all holes in trunk pan or other body panels to prevent entry of water and exhaust fumes. A hitch or ball which has been damaged should be removed and replaced.
Observe safety precautions when working beneath a vehicle and wear eye protection. Do not cut access or attachment holes with a torch.
