16. Safety information

The abseiling device may only be used if the fixing point chosen ensures that no obstacles interfere with the
abseiling operation. Unhindered pulling-up must also be possible with devices which have a hoist function.
The device must not be used if there is any danger due to obstacles getting in the way. Please bear in mind
that external influences such as extreme temperatures, chemicals, sharp and rough edges, rope becoming
slack, electrical influences, cuts, abrasion, climatic effects, pendular motion etc. may reduce the stability,
strength or function. Protective measures must be taken where circumstances make it advisable or the
equipment exchanged.
The device must be withdrawn from service immediately if it has been exposed to stresses because of a fall.
Protect your equipment, including when it is being transported, by using equipment bags or cases.

17. Service life

The service life depends on the particular operating conditions, although plastic parts are subject to an
ageing process even if they are treated carefully. Harnesses should therefore be replaced after 6 to 8 years
and ropes after 10 years (BGR 198 = Professional Association Regulations). An overall utilisation period of
max. 10 years is possible, if the products are allocated to one user only, who does not use them excessively,
always treats them with due care, and knows the entire utilisation history of the product. For that, at least
once a year an inspection by a technical expert must be documented stating the examiner and the special
product features detected. Furthermore, it must be absolutely ensured, that the product was always optimally
stored, never got in contact with chemicals, gases, or otherwise damaging substances, and that the total UV
irradiation over time did not exceed that of an intensive use over a period of 4 years.
A rope must be replaced sooner than this however, if
• destroyed sheathing or fibres are visible
• the rope shows signs of crushing
• chemicals have been able to act on the rope
