Section 4: Editing/Saving/Recalling Programs
Frequency: (From 800Hz to 8kHz) The Frequency control is much like an audio threshold point as it relates to
frequency, rather than amplitude or level. Above the set frequency point, the de-esser is sensitive to excessive HF
energy. As you scroll through the control area you will see the curve move in accordance to your settings. For the
female voice a good starting point is in the 5-8kHz range, and for males the range is a little lower, about 3-6kHz.
Amount: (From 0% to 100%) The Amount control varies the amount of de-essing. For light de-essing set it low,
and for a heavier effect, set it higher.
EDITING THE DITHER PARAMETERS
Parameters available under the Dithering menu:
The parameters included on the DDP for Dithering operations are as follows:
Figure 19: Dither parameters
Dither: (Off/On) Enables or disables dithering. Note that dithering is only available in whle in Linked mode, and
affects the digital output of the DDP. Therefore, you must have the optional digital I/O card installed in order to
use the dithering functions of the DDP. The dithering functions are accessed via the DS/DTH key on the front
panel of the DDP, while the DDP is in a linked chain containing the dithering module.
Bits: (16, 20, or 24) The Bits parameter controls the number bits that are output at the digital output of the DDP.
A setting of 24 bits essentially sets the DDP for no dither, since the DDP defaults to 24 bit output. The 24 bit set-
ting is ideal for computer digital workstations. Setting the dither setting to either 16 or 24 bits dithers the 24 bit
signal down to either 16 or 20 bits, depending, of course, on the parameter setting (for a complete explanation of
the implementation of the dithering module on the DDP see section 6, Appendix 2).
EDITING THE SIDECHAIN EQ AND THE IN-LINE EQ
Parameters of the EQ
The parameters included on the DDP for EQ operations are as follows:
Figure 20: EQ parameters and curve
Off/on: Like any other element, the EQ must be turned on.
Monitor: (Off/On) If you are using a program number that has the sidechain functionality enabled, the next para-
meter you see will be MONITOR. The sidechain monitor can be useful for identifying and centering on specific
frequencies.
