15.1 Daily checks
1. With the controller switched off, check the joystick. Check to ensure that it is not bent
or damaged and that it returns to the centre on being released. Visually inspect the rubber
sleeve at the base of the joystick to check for any damage. Do not touch it or try to repair it
2. Visually inspect the controller cables. Check to ensure that there are no damaged or
exposed wires
3. Check the battery status indicator on the controller to see whether the batteries need to
be charged
15.2 Weekly checks
1. Disconnect the controller and inspect the connections to check for any signs of corrosion
2. Ensure that all parts of the controller are securely attached to the electric wheelchair.
Do not over-tighten the screws
3. Check the tyre pressure The wheelchair has solid tyres. If your electric wheelchair is equipped
with optional tyred wheels, ensure that the tyre pressure remains between 30-35 psi
4. Check the brakes. This test must be carried out on a flat surface with at least one metre
of space around your electric wheelchair
To check the brakes (the wheelchair should move slightly during performance of this test):
• Switch on the controller and lower the speed and the regulation knob
• After one second, check that the battery level indicator remains on
• Push the joystick forwards slowly until you hear the parking brakes go click
Immediately release the joystick. You should hear each parking brake operate within a few
seconds of releasing the joystick.
• Repeat the check on the brake for the backwards, left and right positions of the joystick
15.3 Six-monthly checks
1. Check the motor brushes. We recommend having the wheelchair checked every six months
by an authorised retailer, or sooner if it is not functioning properly. If the inspection identifies
excessive wear of the brushes, they must be replaced, to avoid damage to the motor. Check the
state of the battery terminals every six months. Check that they are not corroded and that
the connections are secure. Periodically apply a thin layer of Vaseline on the surface of the
terminals to protect them against corrosion.

wheelchair.

• Unscrew the motor brush cap;
• Remove the brushes;
