3) In normal cases, a steady drip from the gland should be in a small amount, at about 60 drops per
minute, with almost no leakage from the mechanical seal.
4) Lubrication should be 4# calcium base grease or SAE20W oil. Pumps running at 2900 rpm should
be replenished with new oil or grease every 2500 operating hours, 1450 rpm should be replenished
every 5000 operating hours. Ball bearings should be disassembled and replaced with new ones every
10000 working hours, and also the oil cup should be thoroughly cleaned and filled with fresh lubrica-
tion.
5. FAULT DIAGNOSIS
DEFECTS
The pump is not primed,
both the needles of the
pressure gauge and the
pressure gauge change
violently.
Pump not primed and high
grade vacuum indicated on
vacuum gauge.
No water is discharged as
long as the outlet pressure
is indicated by the pressure
gauge.

CAUSES
Not enough water filling
the pump.
Air leaks in the pipe or
meters.
Foot valve is not open or
clogged.
Suction resistance too
high or suction lift too
high.
Incorrect direction of
rotation.
Clogged impeller.

SOLUTIONS
Fill with water again.
Fix the leak.
Check or replace foot valve.
Clean or replace inlet pipe.
Reduce suction lift.
Check or shorten the piping.
Check motor rotation.
Remove the pipe seal and
clean the impeller.
