BALANCING THE ARM
The balancing system consists of a counterweight mounted on the far end of the arm.
On the other end, the balance is established with«ring +cradle» which has a constant
Weight (1150±70g).
The chart below gives the theoretical weights of the rings (after a run through the furnace) and
corresponding cradles.

IMPORTANT
Never allow the arm to rotate without the «cradle +ring» assembly.
CHOOSING THE CRUCIBLE
The Ducatron Serie 3 is delivered with two types of crucibles and a vitrified carbon sheath.
A – SILICON CARBIDE CRUCIBLE (grey)
The silicon carbide crucible is suitable for casting base metals and precious metals
It has high heat-resistant properties for use at temperatures up to 1,500° C or 1,600° C.
The silicon carbide prevents molten metals from sticking between the crucible bottom and the
injection nozzle.
B – SILICON DIOXIDE CRUCIBLE (white)
The silicon dioxide crucible is suitable for casting base metals and precious metals.
It is slightly less temperature resistant (1400° C to 1500° C) than the silicon carbide crucible, but
less expensive.
C – VITREOUS CARBON SHEATH
The vitreous carbon sheath fits inside silicon dioxide and silicon carbide crucibles to protect
precious and semi-precious alloys during the melting process and to help improve temperature
consistency.
It is non-porous and so protects the alloy from contamination by the carbon.
NOTA :
The vitrified carbon sheath should never be used for non precious alloys.
