El EDM-3 ( Electronic Operator) is designed to get the maximum throughput of your
simplex communication system.
The characteristic of this kind of repeaters is that the communication turns slower,
because of the ECHO effect, however it has other attributes.
1. A very lower cost-effective than a full duplex repeater.
2. It uses only one radio set.
3. It uses the same frequency to receive and transmit.
4. It does not require duplexer.
5. A very lower current consumption than a full duplex repeater.
6. For solar energy operation systems, where the energy backup turns critical especially
during cloudy days.
7. Very easy to carry especially when it is installed in a site not easy to reach.
The above qualities makes this simplex repeater system ideal to get point to point
communication, where the goal is the communication by it self, no matter to have a few
seconds delay to get the message reply.
• Simplex operation.
• Up to 70 seconds (-7 /+0 ) recording time.
• Voice mail (70 seconds of messages).
• COS or discriminator operation.
• Link capability with others EMD-3.
• Hi pass filter to cancel the signaling tone for link applications (see example on page
7).
• Its low energy consumption, makes it ideal for solar systems application.
• The front panel indicators allow the user to know the operation status system at any
time.
a) Repeater.- Similar to full duplex system. The message is received and then
transmitted. The main difference consists in the transmitted message which occurs in
non real time, this means that a time delay exists and it is equal to received message
time. This is known as ECHO.
b) Voice Mail.- The EDM-3 has the capability to record up to 70 seconds of messages,
and these ones can be recovered by user. When this function is selected, the
repeater function is disabled.
