Functional safety
WARNING
Danger to humans and the environment
To avoid danger to people and the environment, under no circumstances may you bypass safety functions or take measures
that amount to or result in bypassing safety functions. The manufacturer is not liable for the consequences of such
manipulation or for damages resulting from the failure to heed this warning.
Perform a safety inspection for safety-related functions throughout the entire system, including all safety-related
components.
For fail-safe I/O, observe the notes and warnings in the documentation
(https://support.industry.siemens.com/cs/ww/en/view/109744173) especially for:
•
Connecting/wiring
•
Parameter assignment
•
Status, fault displays and alarms
•
Maintenance (recurring tests, software/firmware updates)
•
Checking for proper function
•
Technical specifications
You can find use cases for achieving the required safety class (SIL) in the documentation
(https://support.industry.siemens.com/cs/ww/en/view/109744173).
WARNING
Check the firmware version for fail-safe approval
When using a new firmware version, check whether the firmware version is approved for the respective fail-safe I/O.
The attachments of the certificate (https://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/49368678/134200) for SIMATIC
Safety specify the firmware version that is approved.
Ensure that fail-safe capability is enabled for F-CPUs.
The PROFIsafe address must be set or assigned for fail-safe I/O.
Perform function tests for safety functions according to your automation task. They may only be used in production when the
correct operation of the safety-related functions is ensured.
